Pompei is one of the most awesome places I've ever toured. It doesn't take just two hours, unless you fail to explore the multitude of houses, villas and the like. It takes most of a day. And well worth it. If you go to Capri, which is wonderful, make sure you walk up to Tiberius's Villa. You have to walk and it's uphill for about two hours, but well worth it. Ravello is also amazing. But don't miss Pompei, unless you're a cheeseburger-level American tourist who thinks that ruins are just old, boring buildings. Not that's boring.

GAC, Cuma is indeed fascinating. As is the area near it, whose name I can't recall right now, where the steam comes up! I've got to go to sleep now before I fall asleep here, but I shall try and post again.

PBS recently did a special on Pompeii and Herculaneum. The gist of the special was that while Pompeii is more widely known, the ruins at Herculaneum are vastly superior from an archeological perspective. If you are looking for something that you will have more familiarity with the historical perspective of, go to Pompeii. If you have a greater interest in archeology, go to Herculaneum.
