We also bought watercolors from a woman outside of Pitti Palace that were a strange shape, long and skinny--I believe 4 prints for 30 euros. Her name was Andelina something. Framing them is definitely the expensive part! ($200) I think the art is the best way to get an inexpensive souvenir you'll love.

Dejais: so I'm an idiot for buying the scarves from the outdoor markets. Whatever the material is, I love the way it feels and my friends love them also. It's great value for what you're paying. Don't know where you're from, but in Chicago you can't really buy a scarf (even a wool one) for the price they are selling in Italy.

I brought home a small bottle of aceto balsamico traditionale - true balsalmic. It was about $45 in Tuscany but sells here in California for at least twice that. Amazingly good, and nothing like the cheaper balsamic vinegar versions. Next time, I'll get one of the regular and one extra veccio (older and even more concentrated).
I also love my cheap Pulltap double-hinged waiter style corkscrew I bought there. I picked it up for picnics there, but continue to use it here. The double-hinge makes it the best design I've used.

Ciao, e17345.
Here is a great souvenir you can easily bring back. My wife and I were in Roma Sept. 2004 and found a retailer who sold Roman coins for a reasonable price. They dated back to the year 275 A.D. The address is....
106 Via Due Macelli, ph. # 06 6793959- 347 6333697. The little store is full of coins from all regions of Italy. It's a few blocks from the Spanish Steps. Ciao, Louie.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but my best souvenir I brought home from Italy...is a japanese samurai bronze figurine I bought in Florence! Not quite the Italian memento, but I had been looking for something like that forever.
I did bring back Casanova's life story book from Venice, for my authentic Italian souvenir.

Florenine leather products from Florence, but inflation is a bear. A pair of women's gloves in 2002 was 27E, in 2004, 37E and last month 48E, all from the same outlet. a small beautiful water color of Saint Angelo Castle for 35E from Rome in 2004. Same size water color in Piazza Navona last month going for 75E. A photograph of a smiling wife in front of a night lit Colosseum, priceless.
