Wonderful photos! Looks like you had some rain, Michael. I didn't get to Nowa Huta so it's great to see photos of that area. I had to save something as a reason to return to Krakow!

Where did you stay in Krakow?

I bet the Krakow train station looks great now after they renovated it.

I can't believe you captured the castle courtyard w/o people. When I entered it there were masses and masses of people - it was frightening there were so many people.

You got some good photos of the salt mine - it's dark down there and my photos didn't come out very well. It was pouring rain the day I went so I couldn't get a photo of the outside.

Always wanted to go to Poland...

Looks like you had fun! Very nice photos! Definitely not an amateur with I think camera to match it! but even with best equipment sometimes an "eye" is missing for that right capture ... which in your case you definitely have it! thank you! and hope that more are to come :-)

Thanks for the compliment. The camera is not the best, and gives me frustrating moments, with many duplicates while trying to figure out the best settings. One of its weaknesses is that the color in the view finder does not match the final result. So when lighting is problematic, I take duplicates and eventually photoshop as little as possible. This latter activity is frowned on by some as falsifying the image, but as I look at it, in the good old days, choosing a film (Kodak, Fuji, Agfa) already implied a preference and hence an editorial choice.

Great photos, Michael. Some of them are the exact duplicates of mine! Not happy with the pictures I took in Wieliczka. Yours are better. Thanks for sharing. Love Krakow.

You went to the wooden churches too. I just loved them. Did you have a car and how did you find the churches? I had a private guide who took me. I saw Lipnica but not Rajbrot.

I see the snow in Zakopane. Where did you stay? I think May is too early to visit Poland. My first time in Krakow was in May and the weather was dreadful. I also went the end of last September, beginning of October and the weather was wonderful.

I didn't see that house with the wavy roof - would have loved to see that! Where is it? The Witkiewicz museum was closed when I was there. It looks very similar to the Zakopane museum.

We rented a car.

Most of the churches I photographed were mentioned either in the Michelin Green Guide or in Fodor's.

In Zakopane we stayed in the Willa Orla, which I recommend even if not all the rooms might be as large or with the same view as ours (it was in the back and took the width of the building).

The wavy house is new and is between the Willa Orla and the center of town. Check the map for each picture.

The Wietkiewicz museum is different in that most of the rooms are actually the rooms as occupied by the original owner--i.e. late 19th cent. rooms and not farmhouse rooms.

I also enjoyed your third set. That Panasonic does a great job along with your great eye for composition and interesting details. I loved the variety of things you photographed. By the way, I am glad that I am not the only one who finds manhole covers interesting. Thanks for sharing!

The Panasonic is helped along with Photoshop to eliminate when necessary color casts and at times equalize light and shadow.

I love your photos. We were in Poland once in 2003; visited Krakow, then rented a car & drove to Kraciszyn to stay in the castle overnight. Definitely want to return to Poland. I love the photos of the wooden churches. Did you find these churches in guidebooks? I assume you rented a car, right? How long was your trip for? Was this your first trip to Poland?
