Thank you, GinnyJo. I will err on the side of caution, and get bottled water.

Hi CL,

> My main concern is coming from the US, I only have US dollars, and not euros.

Leave all but $200 of your US money home. Convert $100 of that to Euro at your departure airport. You will pay only a few dollars extra.

Get all of the cash you need from ATMs in Poland and Romania. Charge everything chargeable.

You will probably run into some clerk or waiter who will tell you that they can only bill you in USD.

Stay cool. The Visa people told me to write on the receipt and on your copy "Not given the option to pay in local currency".

Complain when you get home. The CC company will credit you with the difference.

Enjoy your visit.

We'll be going to Bucharest next month.

Hello,

lots of answers were given before me, maybe, mine also will be useful for you)I'll tell about Poland, more about Warsaw, it's capital: what about the local water - it's totally save to drink it in Warsaw, as the gouvernment shows us every day even in bus-train tv-advertisment, and it hasn't any strange taste, so yesh, drink with pleasure; and what I do know about payment, it that mostly around the city you'll have to pay in local currency ( zloty), but having credit card will make it easier - it will converse the prise into dollars right on a display ( almost everywhere in Poland ( talking bout big cities) you can pay by card. If you need cash-money, don't run to change the dollars in airport - as a rule, they have the highest conversation costs in there: better walk to the city and find a local change ( kantor), thet have pretty nice costs))

Have a good time in Europe)

Ira..a little hijacking is painless..thought these might help, they cover 1980's and into 2005...I have others if interested. Romania is a "trip" like they say. I took 15 of my readers for a footsteps tour of the country which I have been traveling since 1979..... when there were very few Westerners traveling there..have a fun trip. https://photos.google.com/album/AF1Q...99PSKeD_R-qEKw
