Point to Point or Railpass?
I'm traveling to Italy early next month and will take the train for local, short trips - i.e., Venice - Florence, Rome - Pisa, etc. I normally wouldn't think of buying a railpass for these short trips, but at the end of my time in Italy I intend to take the train to Munich from the Cinque Terre. I cannot get cost information from Trenitalia for this trip into Germany - I've tried several times. Any suggestions on how I can get this info? If the cost of this one trip is great enough, I may buy a pass after all. Alternatively, has anyone made the trip (I intend to travel at night, April 14th, and have two companions - so we'd get a couchette or something similar)? Many thanks - Pam

The website www.railsaver.com answers all these kinds of questions. Be sure and check the box "only if it saves me money".

I much prefer the German train website to do these inquiries.
http://www.bahn.de/-S:PtVORd:dxRVmNN...l_guests.shtml It will calculate the fare. We made a similar trip (one long day) back in 2002 from La Spezia to Milan, onto the Cisalpino thru Switzerland to Stuttgart and then over to Munich. We had a SelectPass for 3 countries. The quickest route is thru Austria, not Switzerland, though. Check the website and I think you should be able to get all the info. |
I have no idea how those little icons got in the middle of that link!!
You may have to delete them! |
DeeDee,
the smileys are because you have : D (without the space) and : P (also without the space) in the link, and this site converts them to :D and :P. if you copy and paste that link, it just deletes the smileys, so you'll have to replace them with what it should be (so put : P - without the space! - where :P is, for example) |
