Point Hotel in Edinburgh
 

I have reservations at the Point Hotel in Edinburgh, Scotland for next summer. I wondered if anyone on this board has stayed there, and if so, how was it (comfort, cleanliness, roominess, atmoshpere, etc)? <BR> <BR>It has a website (www.point-hotel.co.uk) and looks ultra-modern, which is not necessarily my taste, but is fine with me. The reason I chose it instead of a guest house or b&b is because a bunch of friends and family are going over at the same time, and we wanted a hotel that was big enough to fit everyone. Most large hotels in Edinburgh seem to be quite expensive, but the Point Hotel seemed comparatively reasonable at 100 pounds for a double room. Plus, it is very centrally located. <BR> <BR>Again, any impressions you can give about this hotel would be most appreciated.

Hi there, I stayed at the Point Hotel a year and a half ago. You are quite correct, it is ultra modern. I remember that the hallways had colored lights (orange, purple, and blue)which added to that ultra modern feel. My parents stayed there and didn't care for it because of the atmosphere. On the other hand it was clean, had a great breakfast, and very well located. Hope this is helpful.

I haven't stayed there, but I've used it; and I have friend who have stayed. It was converted about 3 years ago from a former department store; and it's only ultra modern on the inside ( so what use is an old facade, I hear you say) It's about 3 minutes' walk from the castle and the top of the mile, and 5 from the West End of Princes Street. It's sort of in the "best of the rest" category-that is, not top of the range, but top of the second tier. <BR> <BR>A quote from one guide book I own says "Space and colour combinations manage to look simultaneously rich and minimal. Considered one of the great designery hotels in world terms and features on the cover of Hotel Design" <BR> <BR>If you want to consider a change in your price range have a look at the Holiday Inn Crown Plaza on the Mile
