Pls help plan first trip to Paris
 

Hi,
My husband andI are planning a trip to Paris from 25 July to 29 July.

We would appreciate your recommending a hotel ~with aircond ~ in a good location (for tourist) and near tube station. Our budget is around 100 euro per night.

I read here that July will be hot. Does hot refers to temperature of above 30 degrees C or between 25 - 30 degrees? Is it going to be wet as well?.

Will the sale still be on during the few days that we'll be there? Anyone knows if there are any factory outlets in Paris for branded goods?

Do they hv a hop on/hop off kind of bus service to see the tourist spots or it is easy to travel by the tube?

Can't help with hotel recommendations but I'm sure you'll get plenty of good advice from this board.

As for temperatures, well, it's pretty hard to say what the weather in Paris will be like in a month. It could be hot (i.e. over 30?C) or it might rain! Or perhaps a bit of both. Who knows!! So be prepared - bring a sweater and an umbrella or light raincoat just in case. Check on the BBC.com weather pages before you leave to get the 5-day forecast.

The sales will still be going on, although it'll be the end of the sale period so the choice of sale goods may be limited. On the other hand, you'll be there when shops are making their final mark-downs so you should be able to pick up some bargains. There's a retail outlet village called La Vallée near Disneyland, which features various designer brands. There are shuttle buses from central Paris, or you can access it by RER. I was in Paris two of the last four Julys - once it was in the 60s/70s and rainly (for three whole weeks!) and the other it was beautiful blue sky and highs in low 80s. Perfect weather that time - so you never know but I think that is more typical than the rainy cool weather. I've never had air conditioning at a hotel in Paris (and never needed it) but I doubt you'll get it for under 100 euro per night.

I think the metro is wonderful (tons of posts here about it) - even easier than the tube in London, and cheaper, there are metro stations everywhere.

If you are into shopping try BHV - it's next to the Hotel de Ville and they had great sales last July.

If you search on www.google.com for "Paris Hotels" you will find a number in your price range.

Look in the 4th, 5th and 6th districts.

It could be that you are a bit late in reserving a hotel, especially with such 'tight' criteria. It seems that A/C is not a very common feature in Paris, and expecting to pay only 100E for such in the 'tourist' areas might be difficult.
Having said that, here are 2 hotels which get favorable comments, have a/c, and are in 'tourist' areas:
Hotel Residence Monge - rue Monge in the 5th has a/c, doubles are 75-130 euro.

Have no specific hotels to recommend but staying centrally in the 4th, 5th, 6th arrondisements will keep you closest to many of the sites (Louve, Notre Dame, Luxembourg Gardens, etc.). Or the 7th if you like something a bit quieter (Eiffle Tower).

Hi- my husband and I will be in Paris in August, and have booked at Hotel Residence Monge in the 5th and the rate for a double room is 78 euros. Have not stayed there before, but booked there after reading comments on this site.

We like the Rue Cler area and followed Rick Steves advice on hotels---very reasonable with AC. They book well in advance,however. There are many small hotels on Rue d'ecoles which is agreat area near Notre Dame. Try to get close to a Metro Station.

We are planning a trip to Paris the last week of July. I email 12 different hotels because I was concerned with getting a place in the 5, 6, or 7th so late. I recieved an available response to all except one and most have a/c. All were under 100 Euros except 2 for 109. Hotel Suede even emailed a 2nd time asking what my budget was and offered a better rate and included a seine cruise! See below:

I'm booking a trip to Barcelona, with a 2 day stop in Paris. My travel agent says he books the K&K hotel for many of his clients, and they are very happy with it. We'll use it based on his recommendation.

I would recommend Le Clement. It is slightly above your budget at 110-125E but it has A/C and they have just redone their rooms. I think it's in a fabulous location, close to both Mabillon and Odeon metro stops (two different lines), a block off St. Germain with the Buci market street just the other side of St.G. I checked through france.com and they do have availability for your dates. I have used france.com a lot to book hotels and have been very happy with them. Check it out.
