Pls Help! Looking for places/towns with fairy-tale charm_like Getreidegasse lane in Salzburg

Getreidegasse: http://www2.salzburg.info/sehenswertes_28.htm

My mother and I saw a photo of this shopping lane in Salzburg, and are very much impressed in the beauty of the guild signs.

Any idea about places that offer this kind of fairy-tale charm, please? Hopefully most area of the town will be this pretty. We would like to ‘escape’ to another world, just like that.

Try towns in Germany's Harz mountains: Quedlinburg, Wernigerode, Goslar, ...

I have not done the entire Fairy Tale Road, but have visited several cities and towns along the route - Marburg and Alsfeld stand out and are truly picturesque, story book towns. There are several good sites available on a Google search. You might also want to consider the Romantic Road. Rothenburg, Nordlingen, and Dinkelsbuhl are certainly fairy tale charming. I paricularly like JPs suggestion - the towns mentioned are definitely fairy tale charming and are not nearly as "touristy" as the towns on the Romantic Road - at least for American tourists, though the area is becoming more popular with German tourist. The Harz is one of my favorite areas in Germany. Let us know what you decide, and maybe we can provide some additional info.

Thanks JP and CharlieB. Your ideas mean so much to us (mom and me). It's a delight learning that these places are for real.

We're now writing up a list of cities we can do by rail.

Have a nice day, both of you.
