Pls. give us ideas for first night in Rome!

Thank you all for so much help! Only 5 more days!!
Can someone please give us ideas on what to do on our first night in Rome? We arrive around 530pm, after all said and done...probably ready at around 7-730pm.
Our friends who are traveling at the same time, will also be there that night (if interested, search my posts for the irony of this trip! lol)
I was thinking a nice restaurant for the 4 of us..and maybe an area we can walk around to and start sightseeing? Maybe a restaurant around Piazza navano?
They'll be staying near the airport..and us by the termini....
Thanks in advance!!!

Samantha

You may want to consider the "possibility" of jetlag. I was blind sided by it... last year! I would recommend Camponeschi, but I am not sure exactly where its located. Its delicious, charming and the service is excellent.

Ugghh...jetlag! I know...but we will try and stay on Italy time.
Thanks for the tip...you're not sure what area it is in huh? I can probably google it...
Any recommendations in the Piazza Navano area?

Trattoria Monti isn't far from Termini. Dinner there may be anough if you are jet-lagged.

Also, you might have better luck googling if you spell it Piazza Navona.

Offhand I'm not sure of that area. Sorry...

Have a wonderful trip!

Samantha:

When planning our trip, I kept seeing restaurant recommendations along via del Governo Vecchio which runs right off Piazza Navona. As we brought our 3 kids, we did mostly pizzerias, but our favorite one was indeed on that street. Do a search on 'restaurants "Governo Vecchio" ' and you'll find lots of ideas I think.

Enjoy!

Hi

Maybe you can start with a short walk to bring up the appetite :d You can easily take a stroll to see places like Trevi, Spanish steps and Pantheon before you head over to the Piazza Navona area. Many of the restaurants that I went to in Rome was located in this area and I have written more about it on this page http://gardkarlsen.com/eat_drink_rome_italy.htm . If you want to have a wine experience I can recommend Nick's wine bar which is located by Pantheon...you can check out the location on my Google map: http://gardkarlsen.com/rome_italy_map.htm

Have an excellent trip.

Gard

You won't want to eat in Rome before about 7:30 anyway.
look at the thread "We survived Rome without a money belt" for some great restaurant reviews. I would say Piazza Navona/Pantheon area would be a great place to combine a good meal and unbeatable sightseeing

Sammy-you have already posted about restaurants in Rome, no? If you click on your screen name, you can see your other posts. I know posters have given you several recommendations-I remember, because you are staying in the area around Termini, and I know I gave you a few in that area.

As for Camponeschi wine bar, I recommended this on another thread-it is a lovely indoor/outdoor restaurant, that specializes in wine tastings, and has over 600 varieties to choose from, including their own vineyards. It's in the lovely Piazza Farnese, just off Campo dei Fiori, it's quite busy and does not open until 8pm.
