Please....need help with train itinerary for France

I'll be in France Oct 15-26. I plan to spend the first four nights in Paris, then take the train somewhere (will have a railpass) and spend four nights, then return to Paris for two nights. Any suggestions on where to spend my other four nights? I'm thinking of the Riviera but I'd be spending alot of time on the train getting there, even with the TGV. Would love if anyone could help me out with this.

If you want to use only trains, consider Lyon. You can do a search for info on Lyon on this board. It's a great city with lots to do. (email me if you would like more information). If you can rent a car, take the TGV to Tours and drive around the Loire Valley. Lots of info on this board about that as well.

another suggestion would be Provence.
Take the TGV to Avignon. YOu can do daytrips from Avignon, or take the train for additional overnighters to Arles, Nimes, etc

Any suggestions for hotels in Avignon? Arles? Looking for something with "charm" but that won't bankrupt me.

Lyon - good food, beautiful city
Strasbourg - A look at Alsace-Lorraine
Tours - pretty little city, trains to Loire Valley chateaux
Perigueux - lots of stuff in this city, plus train connections to the caves and towns of the Dordogne
Lille - never been, but this city is getting write-ups as an undiscovered gem.
