Shrimp and other shellfish of different sizes have different names. I've show no distinction here.

ANTIPASTI
Antipasto misto bollito--slices of various boiled meats
Calamari ripieni di zucca--squid stuffed with pumpkin
Carpaccio misto di pesce--thin slices of various raw fish
Cozze alla marinara--mussels in light tomato sauce
Insalata di granceola e misticanza--crab and lettuce salad
Misto di molluschi allo zenzero-- various mollusks seasioned with ginger
Polenta e schie--shrimp with corn meal mush
Surimi di tonno con sesamoe soia-- "some cut" of tuna with sesame and soy
Tiepido di crostacei e legumi--crustaceans and beans

PRIMI PIATTI
Gnocchetti di patate ai calamaretti al profumo di cannella--small potato dumplings with baby squid and cinnamon
Mezzi rigatoni al pesce spada e zucchine--short tubular pasta with swordfish and squash
Spaghetti con caparozzoli--I suspect caparozzoli is a particular shellfish
Tagliolini con capesante e melanzane--Thin flat pasta with scallops and eggplant

SECONDI PIATTI
Filetto di S. Pietro alle erbe aromatiche, arancia e limone--John Dory fish with aromatic herbs, oranges, and lemon
Scampi alla busara--Shrimp cooked a certain way
Tagliata di tonno speziata con salvia,

Also, in the back of my mind, I'm thinking that datteri sometimes refers to a certain size of scallop, but Im not certain . . .

It seemed the best description--I don't think this dish uese the solidified-grilled polenta, but more the mashed-potatoes polenta.

Where I come from, we call it shrimp-n-grits. But polenta e schie sounds so much fancier. :)

I am also guessing Alle Testiere. The ginger and cinnamon--and many of the names for shellfish-- are certainly a clue that this is in Venice! I am not sure that schie come from anywhere but the Venetian lagoon.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP !!! I am italian/american BUT when my greatgrandmother and then my grandfather died nobody spoke italian only amongest themselves in the family ..my greatgrandmother and her children. I only wish I learned the language. I have much respect for people who can speak numerous languages.

Yes,the resturant is in Venice and yes it is &quot;Alle Testiere&quot;

Again much thanks to all who tried to help and I would never ask a question and not say thank you for help. If I could help anyone on these boards at some time I woill gladly do so. I am headed on my 5 year anniversary ( a month late ) I will be flying to Italy on May 14 and arrive in Venice on may 15 and stay in Venice until Sunday May 18 and then take the train from Venice to Rome and then leave back to go home on May 23.

You're welcome.

I found out that caparozzoli are a type of small clams, like vongole veraci.

It's very difficult to find the meaning of some of these very specific food words--many found only in the Venetian lagoon.

Grits aren't cornmeal? That's news to me.

I thought that grits were coarsely ground cornmeal. The first time I had polenta, I said, &quot;this is grits!&quot; And my friend told me yes, just usually ground a little finer. Maybe my friend was wrong about the similarity, but they taste the same to me.

Of course grits are made from milled corn!! The corn is generally dent corn, which is a softer type than the flint corn milled for polenta.

But you can substitute..
