I booked an October flight w/ United for $434 + tax ($512) from Florida to Amsterdam, out of Paris back to Florida. We always have to connect at a hub, so I felt that was an excellent price. I figure we mostly 'sleep' on the way out, and read/watch the tube on the way back. If they don't totally starve us, I'm content. The main thing for me is price and a reasonable sense of reliability. Coach is coach, it doesn't vary all that much to me...

I'll take your United miles if you don't want them, Amy! I've flown United many times, beginning in my student days, and have had good luck with them.

My husband and I have flown more on United in the last 3 years due our location (Mosinee, WI) than we have any other airline. We have not found it to be the best as far as travel time (due to stops) we have found that the seats have been very roomy!! Economy plus is very comfortable! We have recently flown Northwest quite a few times and they do not compare to the service nor the comfort that United has shown us!

I am a VERY frequent flyer and have elite status on both American and United. Because of this status, I get excellent service, perks/upgrades etc. from both; but in your situation (without this status) I would opt for American Airlines if the fares are similar since American has additional legroom through out the entire plane....not just in the elite seats. If the fare on United is substantially less, than go with United. I doubt that you would have any trouble. Ron

Thanks again, everyone.

Ron: American is running extremely high right now.

What is "Economy Plus?" Is that like BA's new World Traveler Plus, which is about 4 rows of 2-4-2 instead of the 3-5-3 in coach. The seats recline a bit further, I think, but the good part was the footrest. We flew that in February. If it's the same, does anyone know what the upgrade charge is?

Thanks!

Ever time someone asks how a flight/airline is on this fourm we get all the horror stories--no doubt true. I think every airline has their share.

I personally have had four very good flights to or from Paris (one was back to Chicago). And the fare was very reasonable. Wow, 405 grab it.

Done this itenerary on several airlines as I used to rep in Paris (no longer....yeah!) Anyway, although given the choice of the Best, I too would opt for American as being the front runner, but if the price is right, don't fear United. I've flown them dozens of times over the big A without problems. If American is much higher, there just isn't the justification to pay substantially higher fares. Once you arrive, you'll forget the extra inches of legroom cause you'll be having such a nice vacation!
