Hi Monica!

We loved our vacation! It was fabulous. I am sure yours was as well. Did you post a trip report?

We already are planning a return trip to Venice-- just loved it there

Liz

I didn't post a trip report, I know I would embarrass myself with my travel lingo. The trip was the best. I took my 80 year old aunt ( who has macular degeneration), one of my best girlfriends and we had a ball. We did a day trip from Rome to Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, Positano and that was the most incredible day. It was a long day, from 8am to 9p but so well worth it. I think if I ever go back, we will spend 2-3 days around the Amalfi Coast. We did get to see the pope giving his papal blessing on the Wednesday we were in Rome. It was a fluke since we went there early ( 8am) got seated and were never asked for our tickets ( that we didn't have). We tried to eat where the locals ate that didn't have a service charge - sometimes they spoke english but mostly did not. My aunt was so much fun and she kept up better than us !
Next spring I think I am going to Greece and Egypt.. I try to go somewhere every year Jan thru Mar with girlfriends. Luckily for me, my husband has no interest in going overseas so the cost is 1/2. I have been to Ireland 4 X, England 3X, Wales 1, Amsterdam 1, Italy 2X, and China 2X. I just love traveling.

Frugal, you're so lucky you have girlfriends wanting to travel with you! Mine say they'd rather go with their husbands than make it a girls trip!

I think if women just went on one trip with their girlfriends only... THEY WOULD BE HOOKED !!.. I am lucky that I have quite a few that can venture away and that want to venture away from the housewife life and remember what it feels like to be just a person for a little while. Not that being a wife or a mom is not an important part of their lives but being a person full of life and just concentrating on themselves for bit - it does so much for the soul !!

Frugal, I agree with you!! Most of my friends and I have only been married 2-3 years...maybe it will take a few more years and then they will be begging to get out of town for a few days! I think it's wonderful you have been so many neat places with your friends.

I'd like to hear more about your day trip from Rome to Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, Positano. We are leaving May 13 and will be 3 days in Florence, 2 days Sorrento, 3 days Rome. (Some of those being half days for traveling.) My sister and I want to see Pompeii and are trying to figure out the best way to work it in. Do you think we could go from Sorrento to Pompeii in the morning, back to Sorrento around noon and then to Positano for the afternoon and back to Sorrento in the evening?

Thanks!

I must admit I do have some great gal pals and they have been married 15 plus years...We have done lots of weekend getaways to Chicago, San Antonio, and this fall to San Francisco, they all look forward to them and it does so much for their soul. Laughing and gabbing with true friends enriches all of us.
Italy info.. I know Ira would have expert information on this, but, I can tell you what we did. We went thru www.napolivision.it.. They picked us up in Rome, drove us to Pompeii, we had an excellant and quite handsome guide (Andrea), then drove to Positano - spent some time in the shops, drove along the Amalfi Coast, stopped for pictures, spent time at the town of Amalfi, then drove us back to Rome. The pickup was 8am and drop off was 9:30pm. The driver did not speak any English..the cost was 750 euro for 7 of us..that included the 100 euro for the guide for Pompeii.. I would do that again in a heartbeat.. but then I would also stay down there for a few days or stay in Naples. It was a long day but so well worth it. Pompeii is so incredible. Go !!!
