Are you just considering cities??? If so, then I would choose Nice. Lyon is also very interesting, but after Paris it won't be a huge change in "look & feel". Nice is quite different. I'm not a big fan of Marseille for someone who has not spent a 6 months or so in other areas of France already. Fly into Nice & out of Paris - or just the opposite.

If you want countryside, then consider Burgundy/Dijon/Beaune if you want to explore a region by car - then off to Provence. From Paris, take the train to Dijon or Auxerre & start there - or do the opposite if you plan to start in Provence & end in Paris. You could do Paris, Provence, and then take the early TGV directly to CDG for your flight home.

blh,

Thanks for the translation. I think I got most of it, and with some reference to my French Dictionary, I can put in a request for room etc.

We arrived in Provence yesterday, and are off today to explore the towns of the Luberon. Thanks everyone for all your information. I will be sure to post a report when we return from our journey.

We spent yesterday exploring the Luberon, and now I can answer my own question. Our favorite sights were:

Oppede-le-Vieux
Village des Bories
Goult
Gordes
L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue
Roussillon

We ran out of time to visit Lacoste & Bonnieux.

If you have the time, try to fit in Bonnieux & Saignon tomorrow.

We're off to Les Baux and Millau today, so unfortunately we don't have enough time to go back to the Luberon and do more exploring - on this trip. We'll have to save those towns for another time. As my husband keeps reminding me, we can't see and do it all.
