Please look at my Norway itinerary. I am so confused.
3 of us are going to St petersburg and Norway for 22 nights- May 15 to June 6th.
I posted before and i had a totally different itinerary. The more I read about Norway the more I fell in love and decided to spend 5 nights in St petersburg, two nights in Amsterdam to catch our flight back home and the rest in Norway-15 nights. There is so much I want to do and I don't have time. Please let me know what you think about this itinerary: Arrive at Oslo from St petersburg, rent a car and head towards Alesund Two nights in jotunheim mountains-stay at Herangtunet-it looks really nice One night in Solovorn -Walaker Hotel One night in Balestrand- Flam Railway One night in Loen Two nights in Geiranger Two nights in Alesund Two nights in Trondheim. Fly to Bodo, rent a car and drive to Lofoten island. four nights in Lofoten. Either Reine or Stamsund, depending on the price of accommodations. Is this the best I can do in 15 nights? Can we see everything in Lofoten in 4 days? Has anyone stayed in Walaker hotel? it is a bit pricy and their dinner is very pricy. Are there any restaurants nearby or we have to eat in the noteI? Is it ok to bypass Oslo? Any information on accomodations in Lofoten or anywhere else will be appreciated. Thank you. |
I can't really comment on your itinerary because I have not been to many of these places. But I can't imagine missing Bergen when you'll be so close. Also, the view from the Stalheim Hotel is magnificent (although you don't need to stay there). I also loved Nes Gard--and the surrounding fjords and glacier.
I had the sense that Balestrand was simply a place to take the Flam Railroad, and that Geiranger was primarily a starting place for the boat ride through the fjords. I might be wrong, but I'm not sure you need nights in these places. |
You might want to take a look at my trip report; click on my name to find it. If driving around the fjord area as we did, there is no reason for an overnight stay relative to the Flam railway. You'll have plenty of fjord overnight experiences on the drive.

adeleh:
I recently scanned my pre-digital pix of Norway, from Oslo to Bergen (via NIN train), Alesund, Geirangerfjord, Trondheim to Bodo and the Lofotens, and as far north as Tromso. We did a combination of train, Hurtigruten Coastal for three split days, and rental car from Bodo to Tromso via the Lofotens. So every place mentioned in your post and above is here...hopefully, you'll get some ideas and familiarization from these amateur pix. It might help to know that between each town there is nothing (well nothing but beauty and waterfalls) as a result unless you are used to being alone (I mean very alone) each town (and coffee pot) becomes more and more important. If you are near Bergen or Oslo (or even lillihammer) you will want to pop in just for some company.
Bergen has a small centre which is planned to take money off the cruise ships, plus a cable car(ditto) and a stave church. It is also just checking the lenght of the day in each town on the date. You will find you can do some very late tramping. As well as hotels you may like to stay in hutte (often very posh) which can let you stay out in the woods more. |
whatever happened to you, Adeleh?..you write that you needed help and were confused...7 people on yor other thread and 4 on this one have responded. Good manners dictate that you respond in some way. I cannot count the times on Fodors that an OP has posed a question and is never heard from again.

I am sorry.
I was in England for two weeks- left Dec 29 and came back January 15. I wasn't thinking about Norway anymore. After coming back I started a new semester teaching and it was very busy. I am thinking Norway now, and soon will have more questions. I appreciate all the help I get on this forum every time I travel. |
