I stayed at the Madison a few years ago. It's pretty centrally located, within walking distance of some things, and has a metro station a half block away. The (standard single) room I had was smallish, but not tiny. It was about 110 Euros/night, I believe. The people at the hotel were very nice, and it had a nice breakfast buffet included.

I may be repeating someone else, but you can relax. All the suggestions are good ones...and basically, odds are, you'll have a nice room and a nice time!
Particularly at your budget. I trust these people. Someone once wrote when I was a newbie, "just stay in the center for your first time and you'll be fine"... Paris isn't THAT big... its not like the bouroughs of New York...
Sigh... I'll bet you'll witness a bit of fall color in Paris! ...

I stressed over our hotel in Paris, and spent a full day tearing my hair. Finally decided that was stupid and just picked a place. Of course it was booked. Finally, I found the Hotel Clos Medicis in St. Germaine, and loved it. Great location (we walked to everything, no cabs or metro). I think the cheapest room there is 160 euro.

As the time for your trip draws closer and closer, there comes a point when to my mind a confirmed reservation at ANY of the recommended hotels on this list beats getting more confused and stressed out and still not having a place to stay!!

Why don't you make a list of your top 5 favorite ideas and contact them to see if they have a room available for those dates? If not, move on to the next 5.

It really doesn't matter exactly WHERE you stay, as long as it's somewhere fairly central. The 5th Latin Quarter and the 6th St. Germaine are most often suggested for first timers. Paris is huge but very walkable. Anywhere in the 4th thru 7th arrondisements will be fine! Leave your hotel in the morning and start walking, you'll be all over the city and can cover a lot of ground in a day.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! That's all i've got to say to everybody, you've been more than helpfull with your advice and your ideas! I've made a reservations at the Dacia Luxembourg Hotel, just to be sure that i have a room -thanks for the tip Travelnut & Suze- and now i am moving forward to make all the other necessary arrangements. I also have a slight possibility to get a room at the Hilton La Defense Hotel for the money i am willing to give, so i am still waiting to see how this will work out! :-) Until the time comes to leave for my trip, i'll be visiting fodors, to ask for some more help and be of some help to anyone that might need something!!

Thank you all once again!!!

:-)

You do not want to stay at "la Defense". That is definitely out of Paris central, and will take you at least 30 minutes to travel in/out. La Defense is an office park/megaplex kind of place, towering buildings, busy on weekdays, dead at night and on weekends. You will not enjoy this location, no matter how nice the Hilton is or how good a deal you get. The Dacia Lux. is a much better choice.

La Defense????? Come on... don't make me tell you again (just kidding! Stick with Dacia Luxembourg, it is a fine choice, and move on with planning the rest of your trip. Trust me and my fellow posters on this one!

Do you have a map of Paris? I'm not big on guidebooks myself, but a good city map is critical and your single best planning tool.

Hi ts,

La Defense is a grouping of office buildings.

It is not recommended for other than people who have to go there on business.
