Please help with Trenitalia details

Hi everyone, Thanks for all your help so far on my upcoming trip to Italy. I was online booking train tickets on trenitalia.com and wasn't sure the best way to answer a few of their questions in the "checkout" process: for ES trains it said "mandatory reservation" so I clicked on that. I also did the "ticketless" option from Venice to Florence. The other trinas I'd like to book are: Florence-Pisa-Monterosso (IC Plus), Monterosso-Pisa (IR), and Salerno-Rome (ES).

The website said "Seats" or "Mandatory Reservation" as the two options for IC trains. Which do I select?

Also, should I check off "I would like to choose my seat position and accomodations"

Also, on the IC trains, it only gives "Self Serve" or "Home Delivery" as options. Which do I want? We leave on June 29th.

Lastly, can reservations be changed once we get there?

Thank you!!

With nomal ticket, you would only have to pay few Euro for changing seat reservation in Italy.

For IR train, there is no seat reservation.

For IC/IC plus, you could choose seat reservation or not. However, if your are travelling around weekend, perhaps it would be better to reserve the seat, as the train could be very crowded.

Thank you Judy. How about "self-serve" vs. "home delivery"? Or choosing "seat position and accomodation". What should I do about those?

Hi Tra,

Use the ticketless option and reserved seat option.

Except for ES* trains (which are assigned seats for which the ticket is good on only one train) you will bring your confirmation and the same credit card to the train station or travel agent in Italy and get your ticket.

At the train station, you can get a ticket from a machine or from a ticket agent.

Be sure to stamp your ticket before boarding the train.

PS,

You want self serve.

You can also choose your seats for many trains.

Thanks, Ira. I should just print out the e mails they send me and consider those my confirmation, right?

Hi tra,

When you buy your tickets, print out the confirmation page with the PRN number on it.

There have been posts about trenitalia not sending confirmation emails.
