Please help with restaurants in Rome.

The hotel has suggested:

La Rosetta
Quinzy and Gabrielli
Gusto
Veccia Roma

In doing a search, I only found recent feed back on Gusto. Anyone familiar with with these? The comments on La Rosetta in Fodor's weren't great-but they also were not very current. Only 1 was 2003.

Thanks

Diane

The only restaurant we went to twice in our stay in Rome was Mario's near the opera and forum. Its a small place with both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu changes daily and the host/owner will "make for you a special dinner" - incredible. He joined us for grappe afterwards and greeted us like long lost relatives on our second visit. I recommend it highly - our hotel seemed surprised that we even knew about it so perhaps this is not a big tourist trap? There are several Mario's - this one is right across the street from the opera building and just up from the forum.

La Rosetta is a good restaurant but fairly expensive. Same goes for Quinzi and Gabrielli, which specializes in seafood. I haven't eaten at Gusto. Vecchia Roma is just all right and somewhat overpriced. They do have a nice outdoor patio dining area.

Vecchio Roma is quite good , but expensive. We've eaten there at least onece or twice every time we've been to Rome over the past 15 years. Their outside dining in the evening is charming. La Rosetta also has good food but it is on every tourist list and expensive .

The one I have on my list for our next trip in a few months is La Tartaruga..I hope I have that right..I can't find where I filed it right now! Do a seacrh with the name Elaine and Italy..it's her review I copied..along with praise from a bunch of other people.

I ate at Gusto twice a couple of weeks ago. It's convenient to Piazza Espana and the interior is wildly modern. Food is very good and the place is full of hip young Roman glitterati. What a great experience.

Diane,

Try Dal Bolognese in the Piazza Popolo (spelling?). Great food, trendy with Romans, so expect to be treated as an outsider (friendly none-the-less). One of the better restaurants we went to in Rome.
