Therese,

My humble appreciation of your acceptance of my apology. Turning 60 makes me want to speak my piece before I die.

I think I may have passed by the boat you have stayed at on several trips. You may have seen me walking by, with me not wanting to gauwk at someone having the opportunity to enjoy what must have been an awe inspiring experience!!! I would love to sit in that wheel house.

I appreciate your input into this great forum. BIG SMILE.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their recommendations. After researching everything mentioned, we went for the Little Bear on the Water Houseboat. I always wanted to stay in a houseboat. I also really liked the studio apartment near De Waag, but we would have had to wait until 3 weeks before to reserve, as we are only staying 3 nights. We are flying into Rome, staying 3 weeks and flying home from Amsterdam. Everything seems to be falling into place now, again thanks for taking the time to help me.

Let us know how you liked the Little Bear.

Closest Metro(subway)or tram stop is on Sarphatistraat at Weesperplein. One zone(two strips).

Make sure you bring some bread to feed the swans etc.
There is an Albert Heijn supermarket around the corner on
Sarphatistraat.

When are you going?

Thanks for the information about the metro. I wasn't sure about the zone or how may strips we would need. Glad to hear there is a supermarket close. Nice to know these things in advance. We are not going until October, but will let you know how we liked it.

if you have the interest..
There is a coffeeshop with seats outside.
Turn right out of front door, left at first corner.

grace44,

The Litle Bear is on Nieuwe Achtergracht between Weesperplein and Roetersstraat.

You will need to take two trams to get to Sarphatistraat and Weesperplein. This is still only one zone (two strips), but you must comlete your travel within one hour from the stamped time on your strippenkaart. Using the metro is still only one zone fare to Weesperplein, but using it instead of a tram lacks a good view of the city. Use the tram system if you can.

You will find the Albert Heijn food chain by going out your door and making a right turn , make a right turn on Roetersstraat, make left turn on Sarphatistraat. it is on your left side of the street.

Liquer store is just past AH.

I found that smoke shop just a little stand-offish. They were not rude or anything like that, but my wife and I felt out of place for some reason.

roce48,

I dont recall anyone being nice or otherwise at the coffeeshop.

We got smoke and a coffee, went outside and wrote postcards ..

Have you been to Katsu in the Pijp?

Roce48 May 21st, 2009 06:47 PM

jetsetj,
Katsu once or maybe twice as I was in the area at the market shopping.
