Please help with car rental

I just went on Autoeurope to check out prices to rent a car picking up in Rothenburg and dropping off in Munich. There's no Rothenburg in the list of pick up cities. If we want a car from Rothenburg to drive to Fussen does anyone know where we would rent one. I'm finding it hard to believe that there's not a place in Rothenburg.

Check Ansbach. It's close to Rothenburg and on the main RR line between Frankfurt - Wuerzburg - Nuernberg

PS, otherwise check Wuerzburg. Again, it's easy to get to from the FRA airport and it's a fairly large city. It takes about 1 hr. from there to Rothenburg.

I suggest you deal with Autoeurope by phone for your requirements. It looks like Feuchtwangen is the closest depot. I am sure you could discuss with them delivery of the vehicle to you in Rothenburg.

I just called Autoeurope and the closest place to pick up a car is in Nuremberg, I think this is quite weird!

Did you check with Sixt? Their website lists Rotenburg (without the "h")/Wumme as one of their cities.

Be careful on which town you're talking about. Rothenburg (pronounced Rote-Hen-Burg (not Roth-en-burg) on the Romantic Road is a different place from Rotenburg which is between Bremem and Hamburg. There is also a Rothenburg and a Rothenberg, both near Berlin, as well as a Rottenburg south of Stuttgart.

We picked up our car in Wurzburg and drove along the Romantic Road to Rothenburg. The train in the FRA airport goes directly to Wurzburg (about 1 hour, 20 minutes by train). There is A LOT to see in Wurzburg by the way. It's the first town on the Romantic Road and has some real treasures

Hi S,

I also suggest calling AutoEurope.

Europcar has an office a few miles outside Rothenburg, and AutoEurope often uses Europcar.

Go to www.gemut.com and rent from AutoEurope through Andy Bestor at this site. They can often get better rates through their company than you can get as an individual. A bonus is that they know the Germany-AutoEurope scene very well. A lot of people on this board have been happy with their services. This is not an ad; I have no connection with Gemut other than being a satisfied customer.

I agree with Betsy about checking with www.gemut.com.

We have had very good luck renting through them for several years.

I would check and see if you can rent directly from Rothenburg, or perhaps Wurzburg, on another car rental website such as Avis. If they have rentals available, call Auto Europe back and tell them what you found.

This happened to us this past month. We are going back to Italy next month and wanted to drop our car off in Foligno and train back to Rome. However, the Auto Europe website wouldn't let us use Foligno as a drop-off location. I checked Avis and could do this with no problem, so I called Auto Europe and told them what I found. They were able to arrange everything without any problems...and they beat Avis's price by 10%.

Thanks, so far Nova and gemut have the best prices.

I mean Rothenburg on the Romantic Road and not one car company has a rental place there, I think I'll just do the whole trip by car. Pick up the car in Frankfurt, drive to Bacharach, drive to Rothenburg, drive to Fussen, drive to Salzburg, drive to Munich and drop off car, visit Munich and take the train to the airport. I think that might be a better way than trains.
