Wow, I can't believe I found this thread! We are in the initial stages of planning, but are thinking of Riga, Vilnius, Warsaw and Berlin, but now are going to see if we can fit in Krakow as well. I agree with fun4all4's initial thinking that Riga might be too difficult to fit in, but one of my sons has done so much geneology research that I think we may not be able to give up on Riga (and a detour to Grodno from Vilnius).

fun4all4, if you check back on this thread, I think we are following you around. We went to Wengen last summer and I remember your name from that time! Are you still planning to go to Eastern Europe?

Hi skatedancer!

When are you all planning to go on your trip? I hope you all loved Wengen as much as we did.

This trip is on the "back burner" for now. Our 16 year old is going to Israel for 5 weeks this summer with a few days in Prague and Krakow to start the trip. Our younger son, aka "the Bar Mitzvah Boy," decided he did want a big party after all. So, those 2 factors led us to choose a different trip for this summer. DH, 13 yo, and I are going to the Dordogne and Paris in July while 16 old is in Israel (I managed to get FF tickets for the 3 of us to swing France).

However, this is still a trip we would very much like to do so I am glad to have the info. Plus, I am happy if the thread helps others.

I'd love to hear about your trip. Happy travels! :-)

Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Rep. has a lot of water sports. You can rent boats/rafts and spend a day sporting in this historic city. Those who don't want to raft can see the castle & go shopping.

Also, in Prague, you can rent paddle boats & take them down the river. A great way to get a scenic view of the city. Also, you can hike around Petrin hill, or in Letenske Sady (park). The teens might enjoy climbing up the replica Eiffel tower on Petrin hill, and if the funicular is up & running then, they will get a bast out of that, too.

It's nice to see you back!
He, he, sometimes plans change.
Have fun on your trips and planning the Bar Mitzvah party. Hope to see you back when you start planning your trip to Central Europe again:-)
