Please help with accommodations in the Dolomites
I'm having trouble finding either a self catering ~ or smallish/medium size Hotel in the Dolomites.
Many of the self-catering rentals want 7 nights, we only need 4 nights. Many times they seem to be set up for skiers .................. 3 bedrooms, 2 of which have bunkbeds...................we are WAY past bunkbeds! We need minimum of 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, don't mind booking larger if needed. Water and/or dryer would be great, but we could deal without. For a hotel, we don't need a pool, spa etc I keep looking for something like Bellevue in Murren, Hotel Gotthard in Weggis, Edelweiss in Sils. I've tried googling "family run Hotels" but I always get results for hotels for familys And of course one of the most non negeotiable requirements is a decent sized balcony/terrace and large inside window(s) with a great view of those incredible rock mountains! Any personal recommendations, or suggestions for websites (have been checking VRBO, Airbnb, Booking) or better words for googling GREATLY appreciated! So thrilled to finally be visting the Dolomites! One of our all time favorite hotel experiences was a Hotel Grones in Ortisei. When we booked we had to take half-board. The food was delicious. It was family owned and run but not filled with families!
Gorgeous views from our room too. Garage for parking. |
I tried interhome.com and did a random search for mid January for four nights for destination "Dolomites". Eight apartments came up in Canazei/Campitello/Val di Fassa, all of them with 2+ bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and for reasonable rates (about 500 - 800 Euro if I recall correctly.)

If you use the local TI website you can search from there,
eg, I tried Alte Badia and 4 nights in early July, 2 bedrooms, https://www.altabadia.org/en/hotel-a...tering=&Type=2 got options like this https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...82cba821f.jpeg this has 2 bedrooms and a washing machine https://www.altabadia.org/en/hotel-a...tradiziun.html |
THANKS Adelaide, i had a problem with Interhome I would put in my filters, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, interne,t parking, etc but it never had a button for "apply" refreshed a few times and repeated with no change, kept getting 1 bedroom 1 bath results ?
So On that website I can put in Cortina, Selva val Gardena, Ortesei etc and will be specific? |
Where in the Dolomites do you want to be? It's a big area. Years ago, we stayed at Residence Carin in Selva (Val Gardena, and walking distance to several lifts), which is a self-catering accommodation. We had a 2 bed/2 bath apartment with a balcony and great views and inside parking. It appears to still have very good reviews. The website lists prices by the week, but maybe they are more flexible? The various regional sites - e.g., valgardena.it and fassa.com - have accommodation search functions that may be helpful.

The website I gave above is just for val Badia or Alta Badia.
If you want val Gardena use this https://www.valgardena.it/en/ You have a car, so more flexible than us. |
Wrenwood,
Wekiva gave me a hotel name in (rather near Ortisei which gives a half board option: Hotel Uherhof Deur. It looks great and they will give you a better quote than you can find on the third party websites. Somebody else also posted the names of two other hotels on my thread, which I'll explore a bit later. Note that I've not been to said hotel, so I commented on the reviews and what the pictures look like. |
My first impression is that Cortina D’ Ampezzo, Val Gardena, and Ortesei are some of the best places to stay.
Preference would be somewhere above a middle sized town, great view of the dolomites from house and balcony/terrace ~~ balcony or terrace large enough for 4 Siusi ? We definetely want to see the Alpe di Siusi Altiplano. Easy hiking opportunities, love taking Gondolas up to trails. |
Thanks Duvies, for the Hotel name.
The Hotel and rooms did look nice, but I noticed when I looked at the rooms, none showed a view of those jagged Dolomite Peaks. Same when I googled images of the Hotel maybe a bit of a peek at them, but mostly forested mountains. On the website, under "Ambience" the 2nd picture down on "Location" shows why, they are on a large plateau with a rock wall next to the Hotel, Dolomite Peaks above them in the distance. I want a great view of those jagged granite peaks! |
