Please help with a romantic Paris getaway
 

HI, I know there are a lot of posts on Paris and I've been sifting through them but I'm gonna add a new one into the hopper.

Thanks for your help. I'm looking for a smallish hotel (50 rooms or less) around $250-$300.00 a night with trad. french decor. I don't care for modern. Don't really care about TV, care about a comfortable bed and a good size bathroom. This will be our first time to France. Going in March. Since the weather may not be that great, will be spending most of the time in museums (and of course chocolate shops) Neither one of us speak French but we will get the basic phrases down so helpful desk people would be great. A central location, not sure what is best for newbies. I know a lot suggest the 6th. Got any suggestions? Can I get these things for my price? Thanks!

Try Hotel Saint Gregoire which has last minute online rates. It's located in the 6th district, very traditional decor, and has a nice staff too.

I love this hotel, you can see the rooms / decor for yourself.
We have celebrated many an anniversary and birthday here :)
It is in the heart of the 6th, on rue Jacob, a stones throw from the Blvd St Germain and a walk to the D'Orsay, Notre Dame and wonderful restaurants.

Stayed there and enjoyed a large marble bathroom (with tub for soaking), comfortable bed, nice breakfast room with great croissants and hot chocolate, friendly staff and good location.

Thank you all so much. I like all of the places you suggested, The Hotel L'Abbaye, Saint Gregoire, Hotel D Angleterre. I couldnt' figure out how to get to the last one the Relais Saint Germain. My computer is a little slow (ok, maybe I am) today. I also looked at Henri IV Rive Gauche since that was recently posted about. That looked good too. Has anyone stayed at L'Hotel? It looks great but it is pricey. Guess I could put the extra money to a great dinner. Oh, and when I looked up the Saint Gregoire, on one of the websites, I think small charming hotels... It says children under 12 stay in room free with adults. Is this more of a family oriented place? Thanks for all the great input. I'm off to check and compare rates etc.

To me, all of the hotels you are interested can be family-oriented hotels except for L'Hotel. L'Hotel seems to be more for singles and couples and not for families. My son stayed with us at the Hotel d' Angleterre. They have a deluxe double room to accomodate three people.

Sofitel Le Faubourg has a good ooh-la-la factor and isn't family oriented.

If you stay there you would also have an "in" for "Le Comptoir du Relais" Yves Camdeborde's adjoining restaurant which opened in June. He is a renowned chef who used to run the bistro "La Regalade." I hear reservations are very difficult to come by. Bistro menu by day, more formal in the evening. Yves also owns the hotel. Good luck!
