Please help w. Parc Guell
I spent hours trying to figure out how to get to bus 24 or 92 from nearby Casa Batllo and failed miserably and very frustrated. I tried to use Barcelona's transportation site and Google, reviews from others but nothing helped.
We will go first to Casa Batllo and then head to Parc Guell.
I was reading that one can take bus 24 or 92 to a side entrance of the Guell Parc which is on the top of the hill, not far from the main entrance. I hope that this info is correct. I am with some older people and would like to avoid hikes up. I do not want to take the metro for this reason even if there is an escalator for parts of the way.
Would any of you know where the closest bus stop for bus 24 or 92 towards Parc Guell is nearby Casa Battlo and if so, what's written on it for direction? Otherwise, what's the best way to get with public transportation to any of these two buses from Casa Batllo? If this is doable, what's the bus stop one has to get off near Parc Guell's side entrance?
Thanks in advance.

1)goolgemap it and you can see it is fairly close so with all your concerns I'd really recommend a cab
2)tripadvisor.com and plug in bus # that you want and you will get suggestions that you as the leader of the group will determine if they will work for your group
3)tmb.net and you can plug in the bus number and determine if it will work for you.
From all of that walking this way to catch the bus and that way to the entrance, again a cab might be best although the metro is right in front of the Casa.

I believe you are looking for the bus stop named "Ctra del Carmel-Parc Güell" which is located near that side entrance, close to a parking lot for tour buses. Using Google it looks like you would pick up bus 24 just across the street from Casa Batllo at the stop named Passeig de Gràcia-Aragó. It's about a 50 minute ride; we took a cab from that entrance into the Gotic area and it was maybe ten to 15 minutes, tops. I'd recommend the cab.
If you are concerned about walking, please note that the park involves quite a bit of that, including stairs and inclines. It is not truly rigorous for an average person but could be a challenge for someone with impaired mobility, so do allow some extra time.

Seamus is spot on with the description of the bus stops.
It's really easy to find/take the 24 bus up to Parc Güell. But if you traveling with people who have mobility issues you may take into account that the bus could be full and not have seats for everybody.
As Seamus wrote, the park itself is not on flat terrain but requires some uphill/downhill walking. But coming from that side entrance you will have a loop walk which at least has no steps/stairs and takes you to the famous buildings at the main entrance.

In case you were having a problem finding the #24 schedule and the route, here is the direct link: http://www.tmb.cat/en/linia-de-bus/-/bus/24 . The Park itself is vertical as others mentioned.

If you take the #24 bus to the stop which Seamus mentioned(Ctra del Carmel-Parc Güell) the SIDE entrance is less than 300ft away without any up or downhill climb. Inside the park is a different thing. But as taxis as cheap, I would not hesitate to take one.

Thank you. I really tried to get the info I was looking for using all means mentioned by jan47. I would have liked to use public transportation as we have paid for 4 day transportation tickets valid for the day in question.
We will take a taxi based on the advice. Could you tell me what to tell the taxi driver in Spanish for the destination address (the side entrance)as I do not know the address of this entrance and I do not speak Spanish - assuming that you either have the address for this entrance and/or you speak Spanish. I appreciate it.

Well I would probably just write Parc Guell on a piece of paper - say "hola" and show it to the driver. And it has been awhile since we visited, but don't they really want to go to the main entrance? it seems to me the side entrance / loop involves quite a bit of walking, hilly, until you get to the main part of the park (where you would be if you came in the main entrance). Even there are some stairs and uphill, but at least they would be in the big plaza by the colorful benches, "market" area, house, etc. Some could sit on the benches while the others explored more of the park.

We took the hop on hop off bus to the bottom of the park, got off, and said, whoa, no way. We were two couples, one early seniors, the other in their seventies.
So we caught a cab and took it to the very top entrance of the Parc in a residential neighborhood and walked downhill all the way. You miss the "right" view of some spots that are designed to be approached from below, but it is certainly less strenuous.

I took a lot of cabs in Barcelona; they were quite inexpensive for short rides. I would write down the place we were going to on a piece of paper and show it to the driver. I always greeted the driver with "hola" as mentioned above. It was so easy.
I think the incline of the park looks worse than it is. I'm not the most robust walker but had no problem with the slopes and stairs. You can take your time. The taxi dropped us off at the main entrance.
In terms of walking down from the top of the park and missing the "right" views as Ackislander mentions - you can always turn around and look. I often do that when sightseeing to get different perspectives - from approaching and from receding.

I just did that a couple weeks ago, I did take bus 24. It is not an uphill walk if you go to the side entrance with the tour bus lot. I am not sure if it is the one called Parc Guell or the one called Carmel-Albert Llanas (it is the 7th from the end, including the endpoint, on the bus map). The side entrance is very close to his house and isn't far at all nor is it uphill to it, so I think KTravel must have gotten off at a different stop. It is downhill from there if you want to go to the main front entrance.
If you have someone with walking problems, not sure the parc is a good idea anyway, but if you did call a taxi you would then have to make sure the taxi left you off at the closest side entrance, so not sure that would work if you just said "Parc Guell" to a taxi.
It can be difficult to tell the best one to get off at, though, and you can't see the names that well often (on the stops).

Suzanna - you should be OK with requesting your destination in Spanish - <<Queremos ir a la entrada al Parc Güell que se encuentra en la carretera del Carmel>> will work for you if you print it out and hand it to the driver. "Carretera del Carmel" is the road on which the entrance is located.
Our experience with taxis in Barcelona was that the drivers were friendly and honest, and Parc Guell is such a popular spot that I would not worry about a driver understanding what you want.
