PLEASE HELP-VISITING NICE
 

Hello everyone, i'm new to the forum. my fiance` and i are planning to visit nice and its surrounding areas, but we're not sure where to go and how to get there. we want to visit beaches and very romantic places. so where should we go and how do we get there? nice to st tropez by bus? nice to cannes by train? please help...

You could start by getting the Michelin Green Guide to the area and reading it.

If you stay in Nice which makes a great base and it is the "Queen City" of the Riviera you can take frequent trains that stop at all the coastal towns such as east of Nice: Villefranche sur Mer, Beaulieu sur Mer, Eze sur Mer (then take the shuttle bus up the mountain to the medieval village of Eze Village) Monte Carlo, Menton and Ventimiglia, Italy all within 45 minutes or you can go west to Cagnes sur Mer, Antibes (one of my favorites) or Cannes or Grasse all within an hour. Or you can take a train that goes up into the Alps-Maritime towards Cuneo,Italy to the great mountain villages of Peillon, Peille, Briel sur Roya, Soarge, Tende etc all within 1.5 hours and all very pretty. Or you can take the bus from Nice to a favorite village of mine St. Paul de Vence in 45 minutes. Very medieval and lots of great artist galleries there. Also in the Catholic cemetery you will find my favorite artist's grave Marc Chagall.

Hope you have as much fun in Nice as I do. I'll be there half of October.

There is a lovely Uber romantic two-mile walk to take along an isolated part of the Riviera coast near Nice. Take the Cote d'Azur metro - train - to Cap d'Ail station and head down to the sea and follow flat well-paved paths two miles to Monaco, from where you can take the train back to Nice (about 20 mins) - this walk is so dreamy - the signature Riviera coast you've dreamed about but will disappointinly not see along much of the Riviera due to over development - this is secluded - cypress trees and boulders bordering the azure-hued sea - swimming holes along the way - not unusual to see folks bathing au naturel so don't be sky! (In case you didn't pack your swimming suit...) anyway can't think of a more romantic walk anywhere. Pack a picnic! Trains roll twice an hour to Cap d'Ail from Nice - takes only a few minutes and costs just a few euro. Enjoy!

Another nice walk with scenic views is the one that goes around St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. While you're there, visit the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild and its seven gardens in different styles.

Note that most of the beaches along the Côte d'Azur feature pebbles instead of sand. For sand beaches, head to Cannes and Juan-les-Pins, next to Antibes.

St-Tropez is a longish day trip from Nice, and traffic into the town (only one main road) can be terrible during high season. There's no good public transportation, although other posters here have mentioned getting there by boat.

StCirq's suggestion of reading the Michelin Green Guide to the Côte d'Azur is a very good one; that's the best place to start.

Just what do you mean by "romantic places"? I'm never sure.
