Please help - Venice to Innsbruck by train?

Hello folks - need help please! Would like to make train reservations ahead of time for November from Venice to Innsbruck but can't seem to do so on any of the websites - any suggestions? Would like a daytime trip for the view, overnight in Innsbruck, then back to Venice the following day . . . Thanks for any thoughts ( :

This is way too early. I don't remember exactly how far in advance seat reservations can be made, but it is something like 90 days.

If you are asking about a seat reservation, they can usually only be made SIXTY days out.

Thanks music and intrepid - that would explain a lot. Will start checking closer to the date.

Raileurope in US will charge $51 in 2nd class and $76 in first for Venice-Innsbruck tickets and will charge $11 for each seat reservation plus a $15 order fee total= for two is $139 in second class and $189 in first. Plus i believe they charge a $15 mailing fee. (I always recommend BETS (800-441-9413), a RailEurope agent for such reservations, i've bought from them for years and they are experts and also don't charge the RE's $15 mailing fee.
If you reserve in Europe you will save the $15 order fee and pay somewhat less than $11 for seat reservations. 60 days max usually to reserve - choice of non-smoking or smoking.

The BEST train to take is the Eurocity "Tiepolo" which departs Venice S. Lucia at 13:29 DAILY and arrives in Innsbruck approx. 5 hours later. This train is DIRECT, with NO CHANGE in Verona.

Other trains all require a CHANGE in Verona Porta Nuova.

Seat reservations can be made up to 60 days beforehand. Note that the train ORIGINATES in Venice, so the train will not be full when you board. Because you will be travelling in November (which is very low season), you don't need to worry about making reservations until nearly the last moment.

There is NO SMOKING on any train within Italy, even a Eurocity or Euronight international train.

Hence, NO SMOKING from Venice all the way to the Brenner Pass (4 hrs. 19 mins on the "Tiepolo" EC train).

I don't know the rules in Austria. From the Brenner Pass to Innsbruck is just a short hop.

You will not be able to book a cross-border ticket on-line, even within the sixty day period - at least not from Trenitalia. You probably will be able to from Rail Europe, but at a considerable markup. We bought tickets from Verona to Innsbruck after we got to Italy. (Bought the tix about 6 days in advance but there were still seats available on the day we travelled - a Wednesday in early May, in the morning...)

A warning - the view will be dependent on the weather, so this is another reason for delaying buying the tix until after you arrive.

BTW, it was € 53 for TWO people travelling together, 2nd class, Verona-Innsbruck 1-way, including seat reservations. You can look up on Trenitalia.com for the amount you'd pay for the Venice-Verona segment (or Venezia-Verona, if using the italian version of the site.) It will still come out to WAAAY less than the figures PalQ quoted for Rail Europe.

Thanks Sue for the helpful advice - particulary regarding weather - something I hadn't considered. . .
