PLEASE HELP - URGENT HOTEL PARIS
 

Hi, I'm am flying to Paris in two days and need to book a hotel. I am booked at the madison but it's too expensive at 335 euros a night. Does anyone know of a nice hotel that's more around the 240 price range? I like boutique hotels, and would like to be in a nice area.

In July We stayed at the Premier Elysees Regencia on 41 Avenue Marceau for 220E per night. Good location, air conditioned and new modernish but plush rooms. Wonderful beds, bedding,and bathroom.Breakfast was not included but very nice.We loved this place.It is a small boutiqueish type hotel run by Best Western. Have fun!

If the Madison is too expensive, why did you book it? And won't you be charged for a night if you cancel on such short notice?

Try Hotel du Jeu de Paume - http://www.jeudepaumehotel.com/jdp.html - on Ile Saint-Louis (my favourite part of Paris). I thought it was around 240E but I can't see the rate on the site now. If it is more, try offering them 240E as a last minute rate. Might be worth a try anyway.

Try Hotel Jardin du Luxembourg -- just across from the Luxembourg Gardens, easy walk to everything, good Metro stop nearby, quiet, safe neighborhood on the edge of the Latin Quarter. We've stayed here several times and love it. Small rooms, but very well laid out. Excellent price.

The 4-star Sofitel Le Parc has rooms available for about 215 euro per night. IMO, it's in a lovely neighborhood, upscale, residential, short walk to the Place Victor Hugo/Ave. Victor Hugo with its shops, restaurants, cafes, also a short walk to the Trocadero for (arguably) the best view of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
Sofitel Le Parc has one of the prettiest garden terraces in Paris, perfect for relaxing with a drink. Rooms are spacious (for Paris) with good amenities like AC, Bang&Olafsen tvs, generously sized Roger & Gallet toiletries and so on. The hotel is a 2 minute walk from the Victor Hugo metro stop.

Well I went to laterooms.com and they have the Villa Luxembourg available for 102E a night...and its a 4*

I stayed at Hotel Monna Lisa two years ago and really enjoyed it. It is a boutique hotel and also member of Design Hotels. look at their website: www.hotelmonnalisa.com
I just looked at it and it might fit into your price range.
It is is Rue de la Boetie, just off Champs Elysees. Easy access by metro to everywhere, and lots of cool bars and restaurants nearby.

I do admire the sympathy of Fordorites and can imagine circumstances in which a hotel may become too expensive after booking -- for example, a traveling companion decides at the last minute not to make the trip, employment is lost, or distribution of an inheritance is delayed by unforeseen legal glitches. But has it occured to anyone that last-minute cancellations raise hotel inoccupancy rates, and aside from matters of courtesy, raise room rates and encourage overbooking, a practice much decried on this board?

And smart hoteliers charge a substantial penalty for those "late cancellations" and I'm not sure that this is the main reason room rates rise.

You could try for a reservation at Le Ste-Beuve, near the Luxembourg Gardens, or the sister hotel of the Madison, the Bourgogne et Montana, which is in the 7th. But it's awfully late to ger a booking at this point; so try

lastminute.com to see what hotels are available.

If you can snag that room at the Luxembourg Gardens you will be very content.

So the cadgey hotelier deserves no consideration in the way of honoring an agreement? Sounds like a rationalization to me.

Although the current reviews on TripAdvisor for the Bourgogne et Montana are mostly good, there were some very negative reports about the place from posters here, so check carefully before reserving there. I don't think it's a particularly nice area to be in, although it is next door to a fabulous shop and around the corner from a good restaurant. But it's one of the quietest parts of the 7th at night (and the 7th isn't known for being a particularly lively arrondissement, so that means it's *really* quiet).
Also, with most of our bookings at Sofitels, we've been able to cancel up to 6 pm of the day of arrival with no penalty (except for certain specials). Fortunately, we haven't had to exercise that option, but it is nice to know that if you do have to cancel, you won't pay a penalty for it.

D'accord, Dave--but since the reservation at the Madison is for September, I suspect the management will be glad of a chance to rent the room again.

Once again I'll suggest Hotel Le Regent on Rue Dauphine. A great location in a super area, nice rooms, friendly staff.
A superior room will ber within your budget and well worth it.

Where do I find the negative reports on the Bourgogne et Montana? All but one on tripadvisor.com are positively glowing, and the detailed report I had for a bonjourparis.com poster was equally favorable.

As I noted, they were from posters here. Do a search for Bourgogne et Montana on this forum. They are mostly older posts (2001 to 2004), so perhaps there has been a change in management or at least in management attitude.

Like Dave_Paris, I'm curious about the cancellation policy at Hotel Madison. suki_7, will you come back and explain?
