please help on piedmont wine touring
all,
i am planning on spending 3 nights of a 7 night trip to northern italiy in piedmont. we are serious wine people and want to go visit the wineries of the langhe (barolo, barbaresco, etc) and do some serious eating of piedmont cuisine. we tried to book at the castello vittoria d'alba, but they were full. any/all recommendations of a place to use as a base for touring wine country (and any specific suggestions of restaurants/vineyards to tour) would be greatly appreciated. we are looking for an upscale/romantic place. on that note: anyone been to hotel dei quattro vini in neive? or locanda del sant uffizio in cioccaro di penango? would the locanda be too far away from the good wine regions to tour? please help!!! jr |
Restaurant Bel Sit in Lamorra has great views as well as food. Degustation menu a must.

thx--anyone else? why is info on this region so sparse? anyone actually go there?

Hi jr
I've also asked a few questions regarding this region and have had no responses either. I've been wondering the same thing! |
We have been to this region twice and loved it. The people are very friendly, the views beautiful, great restaurants and of course outstanding wines. We loved strolling through the villages like Barolo and Lamorra and the city of Alba.
We stayed at a b&b there just a few weeks ago and I asked our host about this. He feels that the tourist interests in this area have not done a good job of recruiting visitors. I think also that its a comparitively small region and people tend to choose Tuscany as a destination. I must admit both of our visits were stopovers to Tuscany. |
grimmy,
thanks for the reply--but any specific info on restaurants, hotels, or vineyards to visit? jr |

We have eaten at these restaurant and I would recommend them all Terra Luna in Monforte D'Alba La Cantinetta in Barolo Bel Sit in La Morra We also had a less formal meal in a Pizzeria/Pasta place near Alba which was lots of fun but I can't remember the name. I have also heard good things about Borgo Antico in Barolo. I can't help with hotels. We stayed at Erbaluna Agriturismo outside of LaMorra and were very pleased. The owners are extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean and large, overlooking the valley. They gave us a tour of their winery. This site may be helpful to you. http://www.langhe.net/terraluna/ Have a great trip and have a glass of Barolo for us. |
thanks--anyone else with info?!?!?
