Please Help Me Find The "Perfect" B&B Near York
I'll be traveling in the UK this summer with three other ladies (my Mom and two of my friends) and I get to be in charge of choosing lodgings.
We plan to spend 5 nights (Friday through Tuesday) in the vicinity of York, but we'd rather not stay in the city - somewhere within 20-30 miles would be perfect, preferably north of York, so we have easy access to the Dales and North York Moors, etc. So, I'm looking for that "perfect" place to stay: 1. Around 25 GBP per person per night, maybe a little more; 2. Lots of "character" and charm - maybe a really old building, maybe a place with ties to historical events, maybe just a really special landlady and home; 3. We all love animals and would appreciate a place with dogs and/or cats; 4. Definitely someplace "out in the country" - fairly quiet and with nice gardens. Yes, I've done some searching here and through Google, and I've looked through a few B&B books. Now I'm asking for your recommendations for a great place. Thanks! Gayle |
I have the perfect place for you! We stayed at Garth House Farm in the village of Dalton, near Thirsk, about 30 miles north of York this last July. (You will need a vehicle.) Here is Barbara Ramshay's website:
http://www.yorkshirebandb.co.uk/nort...ouse-farm.html The Ramshays are wonderful people and run a working farm. Barbara serves a wonderful English breakfast every morning. She has three bedrooms with access to two bathrooms. And they have several dogs, including Buster, the black lab. If Garth House Farm is unavailable, try the SmoothHound website. I arranged 3 different B & B's through them and was very satisfied. |
Thanks for the tips, Marsha! I'll check out the B&B you recommend and smoothhound.com.
I appreciate your suggestions! Gayle |
