@ gooster: You are a gem! I greatly appreciate this additional information and think I can now have confidence that I will enjoy some meals in Nice that represent its cuisine well.

We visited Lyon over the winter and loved it. We had two great bouchon meals: New Year's Day lunch menu at Le Bouchon des Filles and a dinner at Les Fines Gueules. Both were excellent. I adored the pike quenelle in crawfish sauce at both places and my husband was in organ meat heaven. Service was also charming. We had wonderful oysters at Merle in Les Halles and again at the enormous Brasserie Georges which was also a fun experience-- all the food was wonderful but it was also fascinating to watch families celebrating birthdays with sparklers in their baked Alaskas and tucking into huge plates of choucroute. Our two upscale dinners were at La Maison Marie, where everything was inventive, delicious, and perfect in a simple setting, and L'Etage, where the cooking, service, and decor was more formal and old world but so lovely.

Happy Dining!

Another vote for Bistrod Chaud Vin. I went in March/April 2019. Their lamb shank was 18 Euros and was so tender and buttery! It was the best lamb shank I'd had to date, and the price was right. Other favorites were La Favola for Italian food, and Le Gambetta for affordable fresh seafood away from Cours Saleya in Nice, France. Hi Kja,
In Vence you can eat at :
Les Agapes, Les Lavandes and La Litote which are my favorits.
You can go to l'Ambroisie, which is a rafined restaurant.
And if you want to eat local food, go to Sian d'Aqui... or come home

kja,we had some excellent meals during our two week stay in Nice. For real Nicoise cruise, a small and very local spot, Cantine de Lulu. I remember having delicious stuffed vegetables.
On the edge of Old Town, Chat Noir, Chat Blanc on Rue Barillerie. We sat outside in a small alley both times we ate there and our meals were wonderful.
Flaveur- rue Gubernatis. It has a Michelin Star but it was not pretentious, food was terrific. S chef from another restaurant sat next to us and was raving about the food. We had fish of the day if I recall.
Enjoy your trip!

In Le Pontet, 5 miles outside of Avignon is Auberge de Cassangne. The restaurant is fabulous.
We stayed at the inn for 3 nights. Our first night dinner there was so outstanding that we alsodined there on our 3rd night.

Not sure this is what you are looking for but I thought it was worth a mention.

Although not on your list, should you detour toward the lovely town of Bonnieux, L’Arôme is one of my favorite restaurants in France, complete with the best lamb chops I have ever tasted.

I’m back from my trip, and am impressed to find so many wonderful additional ideas! I’m sure they will prove useful to others who consult this thread. When I have a chance, I’ll file a trip report with comments on my delightful dining experiences – and I had many!

@ victorinevien: I dined at Bistrot Chaud Vin just before you posted! It was wonderful!

@ Sandrine_from_Vence: Sian d’Aqui was closed when I was there; Les Agapes was open, and I saw your recommendation JUST in time to make it my choice for the night – outstanding!

@ HappyTrvlr: Unfortunately, I had already left Nice when you posted, but I thank you for taking the time to note your suggestions. Next time!

@ TPAYT: Another place I’ll keep in mind for next time – thanks!

@ maitaitom: IMO, mentioning something twice is always better than failing to mention it, so kudos for your consistency!

As I expected, I dined very well during my trip. With Fodorite's help, I had some exceptional dining moments – thank you all for your comments! I’ll elaborate when I can.

kja--So glad you enjoyed Bistrot Chaud Vin My husband was just talking about this place a few days ago and told our daughter to not miss it on her upcoming trip.
