please help me decide where to stay in London
 

I have found these flats for the time period while we are in London.They are all 2bed/2 bath.They are all about the same price 1800 GBP for 16 days
1-London EC1 on city rd just south of old st
2- chapelside, moscow rd,notting hillW2
3-kinnerton st knightsbridge sw1
4-lindsay house gloucester rdsw7
5-york mansions barkston gardens sw5

what do you want to spend your time doing in London?

Just looking at the addresses, the one in Knightsbridge. EC1 isn't particularly desirable, it's a bit rough and ready.

SW5 isn't terrible nor is SW7, but SW1 will be the most pleasant area to base yourself in.

- City Rd/Old St.: Not near anything except for the Geffrye. Not a great location if you want to do a lot of sightseeing. Only served by one branch of the Northern Line

- Moscow Rd: Pretty far west but near the Baywater and Queensway tube stations and Portobello Rd market.

- Kinnerton St: very close to Harrods, Hyde Park and Knightsbridge and Hyde Park Corner tube stations.

- Gloucester Rd: In South Kensington and convenient to the Piccadilly line, Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park and the S Kens Museums.

- Barkston Gardens: Near the same things as the Gloucester Rd property - but too close to Earls Court for my liking.

All things being equal my choices would be either Kinnerton St or Gloucester RD - a slight edge to Kinnerton but I'd be happy either place.

SW1 is my first pick when I'm staying in London.

i just heard from a really nice house that it is available. what do you think of the neighborhood?
it is stated that is is between west end and the city;near islington and clerkenwell.It is 5 minute walk to kings cross tube stop.

It's not such a pleasant area. It has lots of council estates (social housing) mixed with offices, and trendy types.

Knightsbridge is preferable!

what do you mean by social housing?
do you mean low income/welfare?
how long is it from there to central london on the tube?

I personally would not stay w/i a 5 min walk of Kings Cross. Not a dangerous area - just not nice.

Don't worry about m_kingdom (he doesn't venture much into that part of town) - but "social housing" and "council estates" are Brit-speak for public housing projects.

But melisa, maybe you need to focus a bit. One minute you are asking about a Knightsbridge flat and the next it is Kings Cross. Could not be more different.

It is in Central London, but more to the East of the areas I would call Central London. It is low income housing, but the council estate concept is hard to explain.

You can't compare it to Knightsbridge which has virtually no council housing, plenty of excellent dining and drinking rather than the gastro pub that is the preserve of Clerkenwell.

I had made up my mind to stay in knightsbridge but then the house in kings cross area became available and it seems so nice.the house, not the area according to all of you good folks so knightsbridge it is.
