Please help me decide - Turin/Langhe or Emilia-Romagna (Bologna/Ravenna/Modena)
Hello! My husband and I will be in Milan for a business meeting on June 10...we would like to extend our stay, departing from Milan on June 15 and visiting either the Turin/Langhe region or Emilia-Romagna (Bologna/Modena/Ravenna). We will have four full days for exploring. We have visited Italy several times and have already been to Milan, Lake Como, and the Florence area a few times each. We enjoy food, wine, walking around beautiful areas, and some art (but don't need lots of museums or church tours). I was fairly set on basing us in Bologna and already have an Italian Days tour scheduled. Was planning on two days in Bologna (one of which includes the Italian Days tour), a 3rd day exploring Ravenna, and a fourth, possibly visiting wineries in Modena. I have read some things recently indicating that Bologna is quite dirty and in need of attention, and that the Emilia-Romagna region is overdone and touristy when it comes to foodie culture, which made me pause and consider whether an alternative in Turin/Langhe would be a better fit. Because we have so few days, a more immersive, slower pace isn't necessarily a bad thing. We want to spend the majority of our time taking in the culture, not traveling. Does anyone have any feedback on what might be a better fit, given the time constraints? We will not have a car and plan to use trains (exclusively for Emilia-Romagna) and trains+hired driver for Turin/Langhe. Specifically...is Turin/Langhe a good combo or is there some other combo that I have overlooked? What are some unique experiences and some must see/must dos in the Turin/Langhe area (including restaurant recs). Does anyone have any driver recs for that area?
