PLEASE HELP! LONDON!
We're leaving TOMORROW for London & were supposed to be staying at an apartment, but now can't. We need a hotel very near (taxi ride is ok) the London Stock Exchange - 2 Throg Morton Street. Does anyone know what neighborhood that's in or specific nearby hotels? THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Don't freak out, get some good sleep this evening, and catch the plane tomorrow -- when you arrive in London go to the Tourist Information Office in Victoria Train Station for assistance. If you're taking the train from Heathrow into London, there may very well be a Tourist Information Office at Paddington Station too. Otherwise, I'm sure you will see a post to this thread from Ben Haines.

You can also check out the Thistle Hotels www.thistle.com -- they have a great web site, many hotels in London, good pricing and knowledgeable staff that answer their 800 #.

Whatever you do -- don't fret, it's not a catastrophe to land in London without a hotel reservation.

Have a great trip,

Leslie

That'll be Throckmorton - don't be looking for throg morton.

Throgmorton St (London Stock Exchange) is in the eastern part of the city, spittin' distance of Jack the Ripper sites....

This hotel has been used by some of our employees when in London on business:
http://www.hotel-london.co.uk/site/h...hp?hotel_id=10

Try www.bhrconline.com/lastminute - or you can call directly 24/7 at 44-207828-0601 - I don't remember the country code - look in your phone book if you decide to call...anyway, they can help you find the accommodations you need inclusive of VAT (the 17.5% tax) and usually with a full English breakfast...Have a great time!

Kelley

Don't panic. All is not lost. The Stock Exchange is located in the City Of London (the Square mile) referred to as "the City" it's the central business district with very few hotels. The ones I can think of are: The Great Eastern, The Barbican, and the Tower Thistle Hotel.

Most Hotels are located in the more entertainment areas of the City of Westminster - the areas boardering "the City" are Holborn, Covent Garden and the Strand all of these would be a short taxi ride away - or the Stockexchange is located by Bank underground Station with easy access from most of central London.

Try www.lastminute.com for last minute good deals on hotels.

Have a good time. Also the weather has turned chilly so bring an umbrella and wear layers
David,

What do you mean the weather turned chilly?! I thought I just read that there was a heat wave on the way!

Throgmorton Street is in the City, meaning in the area of the Roman and medieval vcities of London, and lies ten minutes walk from Liverpool Street Station and five from the Bank. At Liverpool Street station is the Great Eastern Hotel, recently gutted ad rebuilt, at 109 pounds per person per night. Their web site is http://www.great-eastern-hotel.co.uk/

A touch cheaper, but not cheap, is the Tower Thistle Hotel, on the Thames, two stops by Circle Line from Liverpoool Street, or perhaps a mile from the Stock Exchange. The web site is http://www.thistlehotels.com/hotel_d...equestid=56840

Agencies that Fodors readers have named for apartments in central London are
http://www.cenlonap.co.uk
http://www.priceapts.co.uk
http://www.vacationspot.com

Welcome to London

Ben Haines
