Are you driving..?
Have you plotted out potential drives to get your distances and times identified..?

You can choose what kind of roads you want. (toll=faster, non-toll=scenic)

If I were you I'd plan on two stopovers en route--that's a very long drive.

Yes we will be driving and are looking to stop over twice but where would you suggest and how long should we drive for per day i was looking at 6 hours. any help would be appreciated thanks in advance

Six hours per day would be our maximum, especially as you're coming from Normandy. In September 2004 we drove from Bayeux to an inn near Beaune, in Burgundy, and were exhausted when we got there because of delays around Paris.

So I think you might consider stopping first somewhere in northern Burgundy, possibly in Charlon-sur-Marne or Troyes. The next night could be Vienne (a nice town with Roman ruins), just south of Lyon. Then the following day you'd be off to Nice.

Have you considered taking you and your car by train?

underhill thanks for the info no I never thought about the train, too late this year but keep it for future trips, looked at troyes and looks intresting that maybe a place to stop off, thanks again for the info any more info you may have would be appreciated, thanks in advance

I can recommend a very nice family run hotel with an excellent Michelin* restaurant--the Grand Chaumiere in the little town of St Florentin, just south of Troyes on the N77. You can continue south on that road and join the A6 near Auxerre.
