Please help fill in the hole somewhere between Germany & Austria
Here is the itinerary to this point. I would really appreciate help in filling in the middle of the trip. We are picking up a new car and we don't want to head into the mountains if it is snowing. Any ideas??
Thursday, March 24 Leave MRY
Friday, March 25 Arrive Munich
Saturday, March 26 Munich
Sunday, March 27 Munich
Monday, March 28 Munich
Tuesday, March 29 Wûrzburg
Wednesday, March 30 Rothenburg
Thursday, March 31 Rothenburg
Friday, April 01 ?
Saturday, April 02 ?
Sunday, April 03 ?
Monday, April 04 Salzburg
Tuesday, April 05 Salzburg
Wednesday, April 06 Hallstatt
Thursday, April 07 Hallstatt
Friday, April 08 Vienna
Saturday, April 09 Vienna
Sunday, April 10 Vienna
Monday, April 11 fly home
Thanks in advance for your help. I am hoping for plan 1 (no snow and head up into the mountians) or plan 2 (snow).

You're obviously doubling back after Wurzburg/Rothenburg in the direction of Munich again, to get to Salzburg. There are various ways to avoid retracing your steps:
1. Bad Mergentheim-Schwabisch Hall-Ulm-Fussen, Hohenshwangau (Neuschwanstein Castle)-Tegernsee-Reit im Winkl-Berchtesgadn-Salzburg.
2. Bamburg-Regensburg-Ceske Krumlov (Czech Republic)-Salzburg
3. A combination of these e.g. Bamburg- Regensburg-Starnbergersee-Fussen and continue as in 1 above.

My suggestion would be: autobahn 7 south from Rothenburg. Stop in Dinkelsbuhl for a couple of hours. Continue on 7 south to Fussen. Stay 2 nights in Fussen area. See Neuschwanstein, Linderhof, Mittenwald, and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. You can do this easily out of Fussen. Be sure to see the 1936 Winter Olympics site in Garmisch. On Sunday, April 3, drive south on 314/189 to autobahn A12. You must purchase a sticker to drive Austrian autobahns. A12 to Innsbruck. You can either stay the night in the Innsbruck area or drive on to Salzburg. Hall is a nice quiet town just east of Innsbruck. And at Watten, just east of Hall, is the Swarovski crystal factory/showroom. Something to see! Then on to Salzburg via A12 to German autobahn 8 east.

I'd skip down to Venice, the Brenner Pass is always open unless an unusual event. Other areas in Austria you might try are Kaprun, Zell am See or Innsbruck. The Grosglockner area is pretty but time of year thats iffy.....the rest are basically accessed through valley roads.
So you're picking up a car in Munich? What kind of BMW did you get?????? I own 2, have owned BMWs for past 20 years...I can relate!
