Please Help - Cote d' Azur B & B

My husband and I will be in Cote d'Azur for 4 days in mid June and will have a rental car. Would like to visit St. Paul, Eze, Villefranche, Monaco etc. but prefer to stay far from the madding crowd! Have found a property, l'Oustalounet, between Cagnes sur Mer and Haut de Cagnes, looks okay on their website but wondered if there is anybody who has first hand knowledge of this B & B. Would appreciate any other recommendations for small hotels/B & B's in the area. Thanks in advance.

Hello again, where are all you South of France experts? Maybe nobody knows l'Oustalounet but would really like other recommendations of where to stay in the area. Thanks....

We're staying 3km outside of Vence at La Bastide aux Oliviers, and it looks very nice on the Website. We'll be there in April, but you can check it out at www.bastideauxoliviers.com. We're payin 135eu for a room with a balcony, and that includes breakfast. Good luck. Helaine

Last year we stayed at Le Mas du Soleil, a B & B in Tourrette sur Loup. We would return there. The owners are from the US and were very helpful with directions, dinner reservations, etc. We were able to walk into Tourrettes for dinner but were just a short drive from the coast or the Cagnes sur Mer train station. Our rooms were lovely as were the landscaped grounds and pool area. Their web site is www.masdusoleil.com.

Hi Pat,

Don't know if these small hotel recommendations will really fit what you're looking for, since one is in Nice, and two are in St. Jean Cap De Ferrat. What I like about all of them is location and ambience. In Nice, I'd recommend: Hotel Villa Eden, which is an art deco villa right on the Promenade des Anglais. It has a lovely garden, old fashioned rooms, and you're only a short walk from Vieux Nice, with all it has to offer! In St. Jean, I'd recommend:Hotel Clair Logis, an old villa set in an enormous flower garden. Two years ago, rooms there ran about $130/night. If you go, ask for rooms in the main building, since the other building is bland and modern. St. Jean is a great village to walk around. Has a winding seaside promenade, a small town full of galleries, shops, and excellent seafood restaurants. From Nice, or from St.Jean, you would be only a short hop from Eze and Monaco. Good luck with your trip!

Thanks all for the recommendations. Judy, have looked at Mas de Soleil, looks great. We would like to travel to Monaco etc. by train, from your experience is there safe car parking at Cagnes sur Mer train station? This was our main reason for choosing l'Oustalournet in Haut de Cagnes, apparently is is walking distance to the station.

Pat- Don't know how safe, plentiful or expensive parking at the train station is. Why not take a taxi? Can't be that much. The train ride from Cagnes sur Mer to Monaco is fantastic. The views are divine. Word of caution-Monaco is very vertical! Take comfy shoes.

Pat, we left our car at the station in Cagnes sur Mer to go to the Grand Prix in Monaco. The parking at the station seemed about as safe as anywhere else we left our car. We only used the train the day of the race and drove everywhere else...St. Paul de Vence, St. Jean Cap Ferrat, Eze, Antibes and Nice. Traffic was not as bad as we expected with the race in Monaco and film festival in Cannes during the week we were there. It was nice, however, to retreat to Tourrettes sur Loup in the evening.
