We arrive on a ferry into Dun Loaghaire, visit Powerscourt Gardens, Glendalough and overnight in Cashel. Is this too much for one day? Thanks

What's you scheduled arrival time? I'm taking a ferry from Holyhead to Dublin city - the ferry takes 2 hours so we won't get in til 11am...and some of the ferries I've seen take a couple hours more. If you arrive around noon you will not have time for all you're planning even if you just drove by without stopping!! If you just want to quickly see the ruins at Glendalough you can do that in an hour, but if you want to walk around the lakes and really enjoy the place it should be several hours alotted! Same for Powerscourt - a quick run-through is possible, but it is worthy of exploring at a more leisurely rate! The drive from Enniskerry to Cashel is over 100 miles on small roads over the mountain - it will take close to 3 hours! I'd stay in Wicklow if I were you!

Forget going to Cashel that night, it's crazy to drive after such a packed day. Powerscourt gardens are lovely and I would alow myself more than 2 hours to see it. Lunch is wonderful in the Avoca cafe. It's cafeteria style self serve but excellent food. I reccommend eating there. It's in the main building of Powerscourt. Glendalough can be a bit tricky from the mail road if you do not know the way. It's a lovely place for walking around on a nice day. You may want to find a local B&B and stay in the area after doing Glendalough. The main town here is called Laragh. There are a few B&B's that you can find through the tourist board. Then go to Cashel the next day. :-)

Thank you for very good advice. We'll be taking the Stena "fast ferry" from Holyhead. I don't know what the earliest crossing is, but we will be on it. Is Cashel worth seeing if you can't see it at night? We'd also like to see Kilkenny and Waterford. Could all three be combined in one day?

I just did a similar route last week. <BR>The drive from Cashel to Glendalough is a long one. Definitely start out fresh in the morning. Assuming you get into Powerscourt before noon, you could see PC and then head into Laragh ( about a 45 min drive) to see Glendalough. Glendalough is basically a walk around the park, so you can spend as much or little time as you want. Also - if you get into the area after 5, you can still walk as long as it is light out. <BR> We stayed at Pinewood lodge which was very nice, but no TV's in the rooms.<BR><BR>Some will say you can do Kilkenny / Waterford &amp; Cashel in one day, but I think it is too much. Kilkenny has a lot to do , and it is about 2+ hrs from Glendalough. We spent about 3 - 4 hrs just walking through town, seeing the Castle, Cathedral, Abbey, eating lunch etc. <BR>You can , however, combine Waterford's Crystal tour, with Cahir &amp; Cashel. Get an early start and end up in Cashel over night. ( We LOVED Dualla House - 8 miles out of town - lovely sheep farm, HUGE rooms) <BR> Be warned - The last admit to the Castle &amp; Rock are 45 min prior to the posted closing time, so don't expect to show up at 5:25 and still get in. <BR><BR>Debbie

Hi Sandy:<BR><BR>I agree with the others on not trying to make it to Cashel on that day. I wish I had a suggestion for a B&amp;B in Laragh but the only time I satyed in the area, I stayed at a terrible place. The Glendalough River House is the most expensive B&amp;B I have stayed in and easily the worst. The beds were quite uncomfortable and the owner would not even talk to us. She sent her staff. The picture looks great in the T&amp;C book, but it ids attached to a wollen mills store, so it loses a bit of charm. The owner is actually from NY.<BR><BR>Bill

For Location - Pinewood Lodge was perfect. The only down side was the lack of tv - only one in the guest &quot;lounge&quot; area, but if someone was already there, as happened to us, you were outta luck . :) <BR><BR>It is on the main road in Laragh. just up the hill from St Kevin's church, and within 2 -5 minutes from Lynhams hotel &amp; bar on one end of the road, and the Glendalough Hotel &amp; bar on the other. With a Gas station in the middle! <BR>at 30pps , if was a very reasonable rate, with good size rooms and very friendly hosts. <BR><BR>Debbie
