Please give comments on my schedule for Bavaria trip
 

Although there are lots of appeals for itinerary help on the board right now, I would love some input into mine. I have set this trip up largely from suggestions on the board, and now it is ready for fine-tuning. We leave September 20th. Our usual activities are to simply enjoy the basic sites, walk, hike, eat lots of goodies, see churches. We are not planning on doing museums on this trip. Any advice?
Day 1-fly into Frankfurt, store bags, wander around a bit before heading to Wurzburg, sleep Wurzburg
Days 2 and 3 Rothenburg (and a couple other Romantic Road towns)
Day 4-Munich
Days 5 and 6-Salzburg
Days 7 and 8 Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Days 9 and 10 Reutte (I would particularly appreciate comments here. We are staying at Schluxen which is a farm/BandB between Reutte and Fussen. We are planning on taking the train. Should I more centrally locate myself to see castles and towns? I wanted a touch of the countryside, but I am concerned about what will happen if we have rain and are a long way from sites without transportation.)
Day 11 Lindau
Day 12 Meersburg (doing “1-nighters” in Bodensee or we end up backtracking a lot. I want to see Lindau, but I can’t determine if there is baggage storage, so am opting to go ahead and spend a night in there and then take the ferry up the lake to Meersburg.)
Days 13 and 14 Zurich

Is the pace about right? Any poor choices for a base in any given area? Thanks, PJK

I've stayed at Guesthouse Schluxen and I love it but it is too far from the sites to manage without a car. It is hikeable from Neuschwanstein and Howenschwangau but not with luggage. You may wish to hire a car in Salzburg for a few days.

Thanks, Barbara. If we decide not to do a car, do you have any recommendations about where to stay in that general area?

Just a couple thoughts, based on my trip a month ago -- if you're driving the Romantic Road, two little towns that I loved, that would be worth a couple hours each -- Dinkelsbuhl and Noerdlingen. Both medieval towns, surrounded by walls and towers. Train does not go to Dinkelsbuhl, but easy bus ride from Noerdlingen.
Lindau is worth seeing -- wonderful lakefront/harbor area (you might see Theo, a street performer who puts on a good show) and Meersburg is nice, too. The Bodensee is beautiful all the way around!

I have cancelled out of our reservation at Schluxen and reserved at a hotel in Fussen. My instinct was telling me to do that anyway, so Barbara, your comments helped me go ahead and cancel. Have I allowed to long in the G-P and Fussen area? We have four nights split between the two places.

I'd be inclined to spend two days in Munich and one in Salzburg, given the relative size of the two cities. Also, I found Munich much more interesting--and spread out, too.
