I haven't found it to be down. Maybe it depends when you're using it. Or maybe it's your computer.

Ed Feb 20th, 2001 05:07 AM

I wonder, frank, if you have a problem with your Internet Service Provider? <BR> <BR>I've been using the site constantly over the same period of time and have not had a problem except on Sunday when responses were slow. I'm quite sure that was caused by my ISP. <BR> <BR>Ed

Paulo Feb 20th, 2001 05:13 AM

No problems here either, but I've noticed that it takes much longer to load pages by using Netscape. Internet Explorer has been faster. <BR>Paulo

frank Feb 20th, 2001 06:18 AM

I'm not the only one, see post from HELP ([email protected])I run Netscape on a fast leased line.It either gives the page fast or returns a failure to connect - which is 90% of the time.No other sites have this prob.Boo Hoo. <BR>Something has changed bigtime.

I've been having trouble for several days on both dialup at home or on a T1 at work. Half the screen will be covered with error messages and I keep having to hit the "back" button to start over. I tried to respond to a couple of posts yesterday and it wouldn't take it..kept telling me that it couldn't be displayed.

kate Feb 20th, 2001 06:32 AM

I'm having the same problem, and I'm using Internet Explorer.

metwo Feb 20th, 2001 06:42 AM

I am also having problems, using Internet Explorer. It is not the connection (which is constant) and other urls come up easily.

Don't belive these guys that say it's your computer, it's not!! It is the site.

vicki Feb 20th, 2001 02:40 PM

I don't think it's just this site. Last week there was a new virus running amok and I always notice when that happens that it causes a slowdown in everything. I had problems with my server but when I was on-line this site was working fine. For what it's worth.

Meg Feb 20th, 2001 04:11 PM

I've been having problems with the site on and off for two weeks. The "search" function has been especially bad. Either I can't access it or it brings up lots of garbage from other sites. <BR> <BR>Even tonight, I searched "Paris" and came up with posts totally unrelated. One was a post about Florence that never mentioned Paris in the text. <BR> <BR>Two days ago I posted a message and then searched for the topic and was told there was nothing there. If I scrolled down long enough I could find it. <BR> <BR>The "search" function definitely needs some work. Though I will say that I think this is the best, easiest to use interactive site on the internet.

Hello, <BR>I have the same problem that Meg has. Yesterday I posted the same question twice and today I cna't even find it o the board. I believe my pc is ok I have been able to connect to other sites. <BR>Do you have a phone number where to report it?

Sheila Feb 21st, 2001 09:32 AM

Since this is my fourth attempt at posting (and I made right Horlicks of the geography reply), I have to agree with Frank. <BR> <BR>This sight is taking hours of down time every day. I was putting it down to the attempts to install the upgrade but that excuse is wearing a bit think. <BR> <BR>Any chance of a fix, please?

Judy Feb 21st, 2001 09:44 AM

Hi Frank and All, I have to agree with those that are having difficulty....me too. And I have the type of modem that is on all day(you know, it begins with c). This site has been giving me problems for the past few weeks....Was away for a week in London(great by the way) and reurned thinking that it would be fixed.....it is not.... Danny at Fodors....what gives? Judy ;-0

Meg Feb 21st, 2001 11:07 AM

I've had problems for the last few weeks both at home and at work. The message is generally "website not responding" or it freezes. Very frustrating.

Frustrated Feb 23rd, 2001 01:07 PM

Search engine not working. "Rome" works but if you search a specific thing eg. hotels you only get old messages. Search of "Florence" or "Florence hotels" or name of specific hotel gets no answer at all. Maybe if I ask for "Paris" (see above) I can get Florence.

Ann Feb 23rd, 2001 01:13 PM

I haven't been able to get any result - correct or otherwise - this evening

Christina Feb 23rd, 2001 03:17 PM

This site has also been inaccessible to me quite a bit the last few weeks, I agree, it's not your computer. Sometimes I can't post, but often I cannot even get the forum. One thing I did last night which may have been a fluke when I could not access Fodors from AOL at home in the evening, was to find Fodors URL in a Google search (just search for "fodors") and THEN clicked on the search finding in Google rather than typing the URL in myself. This worked. As I said, it could be a fluke, but sometimes I have noticed AOL does very funny things with the internet and sometimes seems to block you from certain sites when you could reach them on a regular ISP (they used to do something funny with Travelocity so you could not book on it from AOL). It is definitely just Fodors, not a computer or internet problem as when I could not get Fodors, I could get other sites with no problem. I just get a message about site not responding or not available or something like that -- in particular the forums, sometimes I can get Fodors front page and other info okay, but not the forums.

StCirq Feb 23rd, 2001 03:40 PM

It's not your computer, Frank, it's the site. Lots of other sites are working just fine for me, but this one is quirky. Sometimes I can't get on at all - half the graphics load and then the world comes to a halt. Or they all load, but I can't access a message. The search function has never worked for me (I've only tried it four or five times, but never got anything but the hourglass hanging in my face for a half hour).
