I wouldn't do day trips to BOTH Cambridge and Oxford - different, yes, but also somewhat similar. Since you've cut your two nights in York, I might consider a day trip there. It's a straight shot by train - only about 2 hours I believe. Definitely doable in a day - and very different from Cambridge/ Oxford.

On another forum, some are suggesting that I take a few days for Scotland ... It looks so enchanting:

Wow, this itinerary looks remarkably similar to mine! I too am travelling around Europe for the first time come June (to coincide with soccer world cup). My stays are a little shorter in some places however - 3 nights in Amsterdam, 2 in Munich...
