Please critique my Portugal itinerary
I am in the very early planning stages of a trip to Portugal in June. First of all, thank you to all who posted trip reports on Portugal. I appreciate the time it took to provide so much info! Here's my rough plan:
June 11-15 Lisbon June 15-18 Salema June 18019 Evora June 19-20 Obidos June 20-21 Nazare (Alcobaca, Batalha,Fatima) June 21-24 Porto I am wondering if this is too much or not enough time in each place. Also, I am thinking of stopping for a nite in Coimbra, and maybe taking a day from Porto. Any suggestions or advice would be really appreciated! Thanks in advance! pp |
You are a fan of big parties??? 13th evening (12 to 13) is the night Lisbon doesn't sleep and the same aplies to Porto on the 24th evening (23 to 24). Did you planned that intentionaly or just happened?

Hi Lobo! The Lisbon date was planned on purpose, but not Porto. Maybe we should stay another day in Porto! Thanks for the info! pp

Is there a particular reason why you chose to stay in Salema? I know the Rick Steves guide recommends it, but that is such a small and off-the-beaten path place with nothing else to do besides lay by the beach. It is a charming little place, but I'd combine that with a visit to Sagres and Lagos.
I don't see Sintra listed -- don't miss it when you're staying in Lisbon. I think that's the major highlight of Portugal if you're looking for an atmospheric, beautiful, and historical place with plenty of sights. The http://www.golisbon.com site has all the information on Sagres, Lagos, and Sintra. |
Thank you for the reply! We plan to have a car in Salema, and plan to visit the places you mention. Do you have an apartment/hotel you would recommend? Also, we are planning on a day trip from Lisbon to Sintra. We're also thinking of Caiscas(sp?). What are your thoughts on that? Thank you very much for your help! pp
