Please comment on the attached VRBO Paris apartment

My friends,
I previously posted this apartment that some of you pointed out did not have windows. I then contacted the owner and he confirmed there were window and included the additional photos. More than anything, I would appreciate your opinions regarding the location of the apartment.
Merci beaucoup.

It would not make my list due to there being no reviews. Remember you have no recourse if this turns out to be a scam -VRBO is just a listing site. We have rented from VRBO successfully many times - both in the US and in Europe - but my number one requirement to even consider anything is a listing with at least 5 reviews...

One of the photos on the VRBO site shows what is presumably the apartment's building. It shows a bar, Le Prado, on the ground floor. http://www.qype.fr/place/2389303-le-prado-Paris
Is there a possible noise problem?

If you google the address, 10 Faubourg St. Denis, and use the street view function, you can check out the neighboring buildings. One thing you find is that an entrance to the Passage du Prado is next door. Sounds interesting. Good description here:

You are absolutely right MaineGG! That was a close call.
Luckily I have one more apartment left to consider (with reviews but says it's located in the downtown area and busy so I don't know if it would be noisy) but it's on the 6th floor so I would appreciate any input.

Response from the owner (Felix) regarding VRBO 460769.
"Dear Mari,
Yes same building, but as apartment is facing the courtyard, on the other side of the building, no noise at all."

Should we risk?

To be honest, you know I don't like that VRBO at all, but I just think it is ugly, I really hate that pop art decor (which has been out for decades) and the color scheme.

However, you really like it and seem to really want the place. The second one is really expensive (a 1 BR for 220 euro a night near the Pompidou center) and that area isn't so great, anyway. So since you like the first one so much, I think if it really is the opposite side of the building, it should be okay re the bar, if there are no windows on the side of the building with the bar (where people hang out late at night on the sidewalk, also, not just inside).

Thank you Christina! It's not that I love the VRBO mind you. It's just that I've had quite a bit of hardship in finding something within our budget.

MaineGG Apr 1st, 2013 01:06 PM

The myparisvisit apartment is much smaller than the VRBO. I don't love the decor of the VRBO, but if it meets your needs and is within your budget, then it might be the place for you.

Just know that the neighborhood is in no way similar to the popular touristy neighborhoods like St. Germain, the Latin Quarter, the Marais, the 4th or the 7th. This is not to say that there's anything wrong with the neighborhood. We have chosen to stay in neighborhoods that are not where most tourists choose to stay.

I hope you have a wonderful stay in Paris, wherever you choose to base yourself. It's a wonderful, dynamic city.

The neighborhood of the vrbo place is a bit gritty but not actually unsafe. When do you plan to be in Paris?

mrubio0806 Apr 1st, 2013 05:57 PM

Hi Seamus, we plan on being there from 5/4/13 to 5/12/13. Desperately seeking apartment... me,my hubby, 20 yr old and 22 yr olds, with elevator, maximum weekly of 1350 euros. But honestly if it's not one thing it's another. :(

No wifi in the vrbo unit

mrubio0806 Apr 2nd, 2013 04:17 PM

Exasperated! Just this morning I was informed by an rental agent from a reputable agency that although the unit was available the owner asked her to make sure we knew that we would need to take quick baths/showers as was a limited amount of hot water available for four people.

RogerM Apr 2nd, 2013 04:39 PM

Do you know if the "limited amount of hot water" is a result of a smaller hot water heater or some other factor? If it's a small heater (which we've encountered) then it's not so bad - just an issue of scheduling.

mrubio0806 Apr 2nd, 2013 04:50 PM

If I'm going to pay $2,100.00 for an apartment for the week I believe I shouldn't be worried in advance that there may or may not be enough water for four people.
