Please comment on our slow-paced Switzerland itinerary

Well, the tickets are purchased. We will be flying Swiss Air in late July, direct Miami to Zurich. Paid 1,091 USD. Am already seeing lower fares, but all with connections, so I'm trying not to kick myself.

We've always said that we need to, for future trips, stay in the countryside--which we always seem to enjoy more than cities--and stay put for a longer time in one place. So this is the itinerary we came up with:

Four days at the Beau-Rivage Weggis, in the village of Weggis on Lake Lucerne.

Four days in the Bregaglia Valley (still waiting to hear from the Palazzo Salis on rates).

One day in Zurich before our flight out.

There won't be a problem filling our days with hiking, excursions to Lucerne and nearby villages, and soaking up the beauty, will there?

Any suggestions?

And also, as the dollar continues to get zapped against the euro, how concerned should I be about the swiss franc come next summer? Should it be much more expensive than it is now?

I love Switzerland! I don't mind paying more for a non-stop flight myself. Sorry I don't know the area you are staying or have any answers to the other questions... but will top this post for you.

Thanks, suze. I guess there's not much more for anyone to say...

You're probably right about the flight. Knowing that when I get off that plane I'll be in Zurich will make the whole flight more pleasant.

Do you plans for Weggis include a ride up to Rigi Kaltbad on the cablecar? I highly recommend it---the views over the lake are gorgeous, and there are nice walks of varying length and difficulty from there, all with great views. We spent one night up there at the end of June, and I wish we'd had more time. . . but Mürren called.

And you can continue from there up to Rigi Kulm on the train, if you like; back down to Vitznau and back to Weggis by boat.

No specific plans for hikes or which mountain peaks yet. But I will definitely save your suggestions, enzian. Thanks!
