So you took Ira's advice and re-posted with "please", how funny! =D>
|
Well, she's right and when you're right...
|
Ira is a man's name.
|
And Ira is a male!
|
And you still haven't given anyone (looking at your mesasge header) a single clue as to what places you're asking about - - demanding that they open it up if they want to see...
so, as I have said here many time before... ...you owe it to yourself to take a look at the HELP (tiny little red letters in the upper lefthand corner) which lists various FAQs... http://www.fodors.com/forums/faqs.cfm - - and especially http://www.fodors.com/forums/faqs.cfm#Q6 - - which I have listed below, in excerpt form, for you (my own emphasis added): ========================= Finally, create a title - make sure it is concise and clearly describes your message (<b>and destination</b>, if applicable) -- and write your message in the space provided ========================== Best wishes, Rex |
Sorry everyone..seems like you all got real touchy..only knew one Ira and she was a she.
|
It <u>is</u> a name given to both boys and girls.
|
Ira Gershwin was a woman?
|
I hope you post with the name of the place you have plans to visit..
I have never heard of a female Ira. Irene but no Ira..or is that a sort of Glen/Glenda kind of thing :D |
grebbs: No one is "touchy". Everyone on here really DOES want to help. But you have to help us help you.
Your title doesn't need to be polite - no need for a "please", though it is nice. What the title needs is details about what you are asking. |
A search for "actresses" on www.imdb.com for the name "Ira" retrieves 53 names (though about 20 of those are "Irina" who may also go by "Ira"); the same search on "actors" retrieves 104 names.
|
Since the thread has deviated somewhat: I find that most people think that "Ira" is a feminine name, probably because it ends in a vowel.
((I)) |
I believe that it would be specifically because it ends in the vowel "a".
Carlo, Roberto, Eduardo, Marco, Benito, Leonardo - - even Guglielmo... are all much less likely to be perceived as names of girls or women. In contrast to Carla, Roberta, Edwina, Marcia, Sandra... or our own beloved... Giovanna (or less recognized by the relative newcomers amongst us... Elvira). |
Grebbs, it would be helpful to know exactly WHAT you are trying to gain from this post (other then the usual plethora of behavioral instructions and other perks of posting here)...
such as... are you asking for advice on whether or not you should MAKE reservations in those places you haven't done so??? are you asking us to recommend changes to the itinerary other than what the "hubby" has to do??? Are you asking whether or not you should keep the car when you get back to Munich??? I'd like to help you but it's hard when we don't know what you want. |
Grebbs, I think leaving a few "what will happen" days in a long trip like that is a good thing...provided you don't run into a problem with not having a reservation when all the hotels in the town you're in are booked up. The few nights we left open on our trip across Europe in October posed no problem, and it was a fun adventure.
As for Ira -- Ira, the only "Ira" I've ever known besides you was the funniest New Yorker with a thick Brooklyn accent who came to my office on a business trip. In chatting with him, he found out I'd never been to NYC at the time, and he pretty much flipped out on me, demanding that I visit the great city, and said *everybody* should visit NY in their lifetimes. I righted that wrong the following summer. Was that you? ;) Jules |
Hi J,
>..the only "Ira" I've ever known besides you was the funniest New Yorker with a thick Brooklyn accent ...Was that you?< No, but otherwise the description fits. :) ((I)) |
Hi Rex,
>I believe that it would be specifically because it ends in the vowel "a".< Good point, Anne, Betty, Carole, Diane, Elaine, Francine, Ginny, Helene, Irene, Jacqueline, Kate, Louise, Mary, Nancy, Olive, Pauline, Rae, Sally, Tracey, Wendy, .... :) ((I)) |
