Please check itinerary for London....

Husband and I will be in London for our honeymoon in Sept. This will be the first time for both of us and we will be there for 5 nights. We are 29 years old and like to be on the go all the time.

Please critique....this is what we have planned so far:

Day 1- arrive in London 2pm, relax and do the open top bus tour in the evening

Day 2- Westminster Abbey Verger Tour and Convent Garden walk, Ghost Walking Tour in the evening

Day 3- Tower of London & Beefeater Tour, Tower Bridge, Jack the Ripper Walking Tour in the evening

Day 4- British Museum and National Gallery during the day, London Eye at sunset

Day 5- Buckingham Palace state Rooms & Changing of the guards in the morning, walk through Picadilly Circus in the afternoon, Tower Key Ceremony at night

Day 6- Relax and leave for Barcelona at 2pm.

Thanks!!

Your plan is basically just fine - not overly ambitious.

just a few (very) minor points:

"walk through Picadilly Circus in the afternoon Why? If you do want to walk by there - do it at night when the lights on the big advertising signs ar lit up. But there isn't much at all IN Piccadilly Circus. Some tourist shops and a LOT of young people just hanging out.

Be sure to check the hours the bus tour runs - some do close down early in the evening.

I'd definitely be able to find something more fun that the Jack the Ripper walk. A play/musical, a pub walk, a concert, late night in one of the museums, almost anything.

Maybe a few comments...
1. You might want to do the bus tour still during the day. You'll get a better feel while it's still light.
2. You have Ghost walking tour and Jack the Ripper tour on Days2&3 evenings--sounds somewhat similar, or is it intentional/your interest?
3. You can squeeze some time from Days 2 and 5. Possibly Day4 unless you're planning to spend the entire day at two museums.
4. Would you consider a quick trip slightly further out, eg Windsor or Greenwich?
5. You won't need a whole afternoon to walk thru Picadilly Circus. Or are you thinking of shopping ?
6. Hyde Park in the mornings before other attractions open.

The Jack the Ripper tour is fun but the only problem with it is that the area was heavily reconstructed after the war so some of the "ambience" is missing but we had a great leader who was very entertaining. You'll just find yourself at one point standing in a parking lot being told the "This is where ***** was found."

I agree with the others - skip "Jack the Ripper" - no ambiance, and the tour can be jam-packed because it is so popular (several HUNDRED people on it the last time I took the tour - never again!).

There is a nighttime tour of London - I can't remember the exact name, but it started at various points (we chose Victoria Station, as I recall) and was quite an extensive tour. I think it began around 9:30 or 10:00 PM. It was great.

For a daytime tour, consider the Duck Tour, in an amphibious vehicle, originally built for the D-Day invasion. We took the first tour of the day on a Friday morning in July 2005 and were the only four people on the tour. It was wonderful! The tour guide said that the first tour is usually the only one that isn't fully booked. The tour goes around London, then zips through MI5 (or is it MI6 - I guess I'll need to read my own trip report!), picks up a certified river pilot, and you go out onto the Thames and take a short cruise past Parliament, Tate Modern, etc. We loved this tour.

If Graham is your guide for the Ghost Walk - don't go! He's a former banker and related EVERYTHING to banking...not fun.

Leave time to walk around some of the buildings/monuments at night - walking along the Embankment and surrounding buildings is breathtaking.

Enjoy your honeymoon!

The hop-on/off bus tours usually end by 6 PM, so wouldn't be an option for evening. Does your plane land at 2 PM? If so, plan on getting to your hotel by 3:30 or so. By the time you check in and get settled, you might just want to stroll around your neighborhood, have a pub meal and turn in. Where are you staying? A nice evening walk through a park, or a quick tube ride to Big Ben area and a walk on the bridge to view London at night might be nice.
