kybourbon,

It was too late and i had purchased my ticket.. Hope things will turn out to be a great experience.

I had also purchased another ticket from Florence to Venice through Trenitalia but after 24 hours, i still have not received confirmation email nor my card is charged. I wonder should i booked another ticket as soon as possible or should i wait? Cause the ticket keeps rising..

Best regards,
Gordon

Did you register online with Trenitalia before purchasing? You should be able to retrieve anything purchased by logging in although it sounds like your order wasn't processed. Make sure your credit card isn't blocking your purchase. Many do block Italian purchases unless you notify them in advance about it.

Scroll down this link for how to register. Don't click any links, just keep scrolling until you get to registration info.

Some random thoughts on the above: re crime: the best way to foil pickpockets is to leave most everything of value in the safe at your hotel. Get and use moneybelts (either around the waist or hung around the neck) for one credit card, a photocopy of your passport, and a bit of cash. If thieves can't see that you have anything, they won't try to steal it. If you are going to shop, take your purchases right back to the hotel. I'll have to say, however, that we've never encountered thieves who wanted to steal our purchases--what they seem to be after is cash and passports.
And of course don't drink too much or stay out too late.

I'd stay a nite in Bologna--it's a very interesting small city with great food.

Venice: it is much better to stay in Venice than in Padua--although it's more expensive, Venice becomes a different city at nite after all the day trippers leave. Do take the Vaporetto to the Islands--especially Torcello which is a wonderful, quiet place.

Finally, as indicated, you will be able to get by with English and gestures in all those cities.

Also, in trying to find where your Florence hotels are, noted that they are quite far from the Centro Storico.

If you haven't already, try Tripadvisor to look for hotels. It's by the far the best lodging source I've used. It will open your scope much beyond those listed in any one guidebook, and let you zero in on prices then book right away if you find a hotel you like at a price you can afford. Use the ratings to see what people think about them, what to avoid, etc.
