Plays or shows in Paris?

Hello, my husband and I will be flying to Paris on July, this to celebrate our second wedding anniversary. Any recommendation for a good play or show in the area?

Well plays ot shows won;t work unless you speak French.

there are a ton of places with musical events - from opera, ballet, symphonic music to jazz clubs and places with typeica French music.

I would not head to Folies unless you are fond of 1950s type Las Vegas shows with procession of mostly naked show girls in giant headresses.

How 'bout this:

May not be exactly what you have in mind, but it gets good reviews and looks like fun.

The Folies Bergere has for many years shown all sorts of shows, not just the 1950s Las Vegas shows described above. Here is a link showing the variety of events housed in this theater:

If you do speak French, the theater scene in Paris is wonderful, although July is not really the theater season. The Comedie Francaise is a great place to catch classic French theater as well as a couple more contemporary productions each year, and their website shows they are operating in July.

One good website to find shows is www.billetreduc.com You can search by type of shows, date, and location. Also good for last minute tickets, some discounted and even free.

July is low season for shows, but you should be able to find a couple hundred of options.

How about a Guignol show in the Luxemburg Gardens?

Or the famous Cirque d' Hiver - may be language proof and I assume not jus tin winter but not sure.

The Cirque d'Hiver is one of the many places on holiday in July. The name of the place sort of gives this away.

If you like music, you might want to check out who's playing at the Olympia in July during the time that you are there. I can say if it was me, and I was there on July 7th, I'd be going to see Mumford & Sons at the Olympia!

We really enjoyed How to Become A Parisian in One HOur. In English, obviously. Lots of audience participation.

I had thought of How to Become Parisian in One Hour, which I also really enjoyed, but it appears not to be playing in July.

When my husband and I were in Paris last Oct. I checked what was playing at the Olympia and found that Mireille Mathieu was performing. We bought tickets and had a wonderful time. Since then I get emails about upcoming events and don't recognize the names of many of the performers, but you could always google the performers and find out what their music is like.

I haven't attended any myself, but many posters have enjoyed the concerts at Sainte Chapelle.

This is an excellent site to look for shows and tickets: http://www.fnacspectacles.com/

Mireille Mathieu! Love her - haven't heard anything about her in years. Good to know she is still performing. Thanks, vanne.

If it's beginning of July, usually more possibilities then end -- end of July and August are dead in terms of performing arts.

They have some English language "shows" occasionally now in Paris at mega huge venues on the edges, and sometimes at Chatelet du Theatre. They often have dance at the end of July -- this year they do have Alvin Ailey during July. I wouldn't bother myself, why go to Paris just to go to something you probably wouldn't at home, and it won't be cheap.

If you want one of those cabaret shows, there are a couple you can check out -- Moulin Rouge and Folies Bergere.

We will be there in October. The couple we are going with wants to see Can Can. I realize this is very touristy but any suggestions?
