Planning trip to Portugal
Hi all, I'm looking to visit Lisbon in March/April. Any suggestions on what the weather will be like? What are some not to miss restaurants? I'm a photographer and would like to discover some not so popular neighborhoods, eat at local spots, etc. If anyone can suggest day trips from Lisbon as well to near by cities that would be very helpful thanks!

We were in Lisbon last April for 5 nights and loved it. You can click on my name to read my trip report. I give names of restaurants we ate at and our opinion. Two popular day trips are Sintra and Cascais.

How long do you have? Lots of neat day trips by train - Sintra is about the most popular one - royal castles and nice royal town just a short hop from Lisbon - Evora a longer train or bus ride - about 2 hrs - is an old-world gem - Cascais and Evora for faded grandeur in these old seaside resorts - Obidos -perfectly walled medieval town north of Lisbon and easily done by train or bus - for lots on day trips by train check www.ricksteves.com and BETS-European Rail Experts - train schedules www.cp.pt - Portuguese Railways site - can book own tickets for longer day trips like Obidos and Evora at discounts - Sintra is like a commuter train. Belem the seaside extension of Porto to west is a nice day too but just take a tram.
For pictures of an ancient part of Lisbon take tram # 28 - the 'hill-climbing tram' that goes thru the hilly narrow streets of the Alfama: https://www.google.com/search?q=lisb...w=1280&bih=625 |
If possible, don't forget to cover the ancient empire buildings and the beautiful beach scenes. Off-course the famous food there are grilled sardines and salted cods.

If you go to Sintra or Cascais a little bit further on is the famous Cabo da Roca - the last spit of land of the European Continent - including Ireland I believe - always a rough sea and last stop before America! If take train to Sintra or Cascais buses link them with the Cabo da Roca area.
