Planning on the cheap

I've got airline miles to get me anywhere, and $2000 to spend, all inclusive. where would you go? What would you do?

Is the 2000 for one or two people? I know you want to go to Europe, but the exchange rate is so atrocious that your money won't go that far, will it?

If it has to be Europe, and for me, it usually does, then I think I would go to Paris, because I find it to be a city where I get a lot of bang for my dollar. Very cheap and excellent public transportation, and a good many decent hotels and restaurants that aren't unaffordable when I'm on a budget.

my 2 cents...

I think you need to give some info so the people that visit this board could help you.
Where do you live (i.e. State?)
What continent/country/area/city interest you?
What activities are you interested in?
What travel period works for you?
Fodorites are always so generous in sharing their thoughts and experiences so am sure if you repost with more information you will get a lot of ideas from very knowledgable travelers.
You must be very excited about your travel opportunities. Look forward to reading your next post.

I think conventional European destinations are quite possible with a budget-focused outlook. I plan to spend somewhat less than $2000 USD on a two-week three-city Italian trip, not including airfare.

Despite the current unfavorable exchange rate, home exchanging as I do enables you to eliminate the hotel charges almost entirely.

I am going to Rome for 2 1/2 weeks over Christmas and hope the entire vacation including airfare will come in under $2,000. We plan to eat some meals in and that will help as well. Aside from 2 nights in Florence (in a hotel), we will spend the entire time in Rome to take full advantage of our exchange apt.

Rome will be my 28th home exchange since 1990 (11th in Europe).
