planning itinerary
 

Hello, my name is Rohit Prakash, and I am coming to visit Southern Italy in the early part of November. There are four of us travelling, and I was hoping to get some advice in regard to things to do and accomodations. We are all in our mid 20s. Tentatively, we will be arriving in Rome on November 3, and will be returning from Rome on the 12th. Although we look forward to seeing that city, I personally am looking forward to coming down the coast, and seeing some non-touristy type things. We are very interested in nature, and seeing the sights.

I'd like some advice on accomodations as well as what you think is a worthy itinerary. Lastly, would like to do one night at a fairly nice place (for the ladies ;) ), so any suggestions in regard to this would also be great. I would prefer bed and breakfast places, but if a hotel has a nice deal on half boards or something, this is fine as well.

Hi, ropra. What is your budget for accomodations, and how many rooms will you need? Do you have to have private baths? Any other special needs like elevators or handicapped facilities?

With only 9 days in Italy, and flying in/out of Rome, my suggestion is that you spend 2 days and 1 night in Rome, train to Florence for 3 nights, train to Venice for 2 nights, train back to Rome for 2 nights.

While ira's suggestions are almost always spot-on, this poster specifically said he wanted to go "down the coast" and loves nature. The usual trio of Italian cities doesn't seem appropriate here.

Most important piece of missing info - how will you be getting around, ropra? If you're using the train, your opportunities for getting into "nature" are somewhat limited. If you're renting a car, you can do some wonderful wanderings down the coast to Sperlonga and Anzio and Gaeta and then inland to some real gems of hilltowns.

We will be renting a car. I have been to Italy quite a few times, and have indeed down the big three before. BUt most of my travels have been in Northern Italy.

SO, I am fairly comfortable with driving and a little adventure.

Was planning one night on the amalfi coast that would be a little extravagent. suggestions for this would be great too..
